Special edition - ouch - not bought one yet then? biggrin

Mine has the holy grail of Spyder alloys and buckets. As a (once) slim, agile 43 year old, I struggle to get in and out of it in my garage which is not particularly narrow. I'd love to take my Grandad out in it around his beloved Yorkshire Dales but even if I could get him in, I'd never get him out. There is clearly a market for the sports seats although to me personally the buckets do lift the experience of driving the car.

Over on the PCGB forum we have watched the market closely for almost 18 months and cars have been selling very quickly recently irrespective of seats or wheels. As of today there are 6 to choose from - 2 OPC, 1 at 911V, and 3 at independents. Their average mileage is 10000 and their average asking price is £39871. It may be a special edition but the thread has nearly had 100000 hits now which is unprecendented on that site. They certainly remain interesting, presumably because there is nothing else at the price point that offers quite the same package.

Of the 6 cars for sale today, all have sports seats and not buckets.

You won't - something will be brought out that finally catches your attention. There's always that nagging doubt that the roof's a bit st combined with the hairdressers' car jibes and the you only live once philosophy that it's best to try new things every now and again.

Despite the current blip, I don't see them as an investment opportunity for several years, if ever, but when the sun shines, I do still very much enjoy driving mine which is all that matters really.

In 5 years time, mine will be 9 years old - that's usually the zone when cars are a bit out of love and in no man's land, no longer new, not yet classic. We'll have had the facelifted 981 Boxster and its replacement will be out too by then. £15k I reckon at 50k miles. Will I still have it? No idea.

Can't believe an OPC is selling one with that ste on the back.

Good luck to Cambridge though, if this carries on the first used £50k Spyder can't be far off - especially white, Spyder alloys, manual, buckets, sports chrono and sports exhaust. Hmmm, where could I find me one of those...

Spyder wheels are about £4.5k.

The kit on the Cambridge car is IMHO an irrelevance on a Spyder. Mileage seems to be its best feature.

I only paid around that for mine new almost 4 years ago!

Possibly so but I'm not sure the used Spyder market does. People seem to want the wheels, seats, gears of their choice and sports exhaust and possibly sports chrono but everything else (or the absence of) is just an added bonus.

Can't beat heated seats on a cold morning or 3am blast through the welsh mountains where it can get really nippy.
I've driven mine through the Welsh mountains at -5 degrees C and don't have heated seats - the heater's good enough - other than taking the initial chill off cold leather I don't think they make that much difference?

I like aircon though but as I am only 12 stone that's ok ;-)

They were pretty much perfect as a modern Porsche.

Thing is, for me at least, a 981S isn't and there isn't anything in the current stable remotely affordable that floats my boat quite the same way.

Are you pleased with them?

We have similar on Liz's Abarth. Hides brake dust quite well.

On the Spyder I think silver looks nicer when it's clean?

Interesting to remember what Chris Harris said about the Spyder this time last year.

The market seems to be more "buoyant" now?
