Sorry what I should have said £72 is the max value with out tracker as one cannot make profit out of an insurance claim. Will pay up to invoice value
Thanks for the info. Yep, will likely use Marsh - as you say written by Aviva. They have agreed a market value of £85K (£19K above list), will need cat 5 tracker - £460 (excess of only £430).

you can get Gap insurance that will cover from pay out to replacement value, I looked at it as I have trade insurance and they would pay out trade which was around £45k on a Spyder redface I was quoted £350 for 3 years cover.

I chose to insure separate/private and if the worst happened and I will get new price and I would be happy with that.
I would question this though, because lets say the car is £70k list so you insure it for that amount, to avoid the premiums and tracker requirement, the insurer are likely to pay out that amount even if the car is market valued at £90k. GAP insurance won't cover the difference in this, because they will pay up to the insured limit, covering any insurance short fall. I wouldn't consider GAP will to pay the extra £20k.

I've just gone with Lockton.

I didn't get much chance to research things before picking my car up last week.

Quote was £895 for 5,000 miles per yr. Insured to £88,850.

I need to get a tracker, but they haven't specified a category. I asked them, and they said any level!

I don't think it's that good a deal, but it's difficult to know, as I had a big-ish claim on a Caterham a few years back. (Ran out of talent on a greasy roundabout!)

Loving the car though!

I've just left Lockton for new Spyder due next week. £586 but insisted on tracker so went with Classic Line no tracker £623
So not lobbing out £200 + pa membership fee for tracker £623 seemed a positive bargain for a London car

What I meant was, Admiral covers the market value of the car. As the market value is currently greater than list then you would be paid the greater amount - the market value. Admiral confirmed this to me when I added the GT4 to my multicar package.

Insurance for your 981 Spyder - that old chestnut. Interested in what insurers you all went for.

Just heard my Spyder has arrived at the OPC! A week early. So, firstly I looked on the comparison insurance web sites - cheapest comes out at £220. Problem with most of the insurers is that they won't accept a proper market value of the car & probably won't get a choice of repairer. At the other end of the spectrum Hiscox Insurance - I have an agreed value of the car at 86K (invoice value is 65K), choice of repairer, but will need at least a cat 6 tracker (which will have to be a Porsche one at over £1000 so not to invalidate the warranty) - cost £1250 I'am 56, clean license etc etc. so either i can get cheap insurance which won't really cover the car if a total loss or pay a mega amount up front. Urrrghhh.
Similar to you, my car has just arrived at OPC and expect to collect next Thursday. My wife sorted the insurance yesterday. We ended up adding ours to our Hiscox Policy, but admiral confirmed market value would be over list given the vehicles currently in the market. I was surprised (I am an underwriter myself), but still preferred the certainty of agreed value and that anyone else can drive it fully comp (though I may not let them)! Admiral did not require a tracker for us, though we live in Essex/Suffolk borders.

If you challenge Hiscox they may loosen the requirement to a monitor for £150 ( but you didn't hear it from me)!

I went with Marsh - Porsche Insurance, they will insure upto £74,999 with out a tracker.
So is it worth spending the extra money on the tracker to cover an extra £10k ??
Plus you get a couple of track days covered (with a 10% value of the car excess)
I paid £450ish.

!
Admiral don t appear to require tracker on any car irrespective of value.....including a 991 GT3 when they were £175k!

Anyone experienced their claims payout at such levels?

Over an hour in traffic
My dear wife moaned all the way

I feel every bump
I loved it !
So from now it's only me in the car

Very important to maintain your own selfish interests in a relationship.

I find relationships strengthen after time apart.

Applies to both cars and women btw.

In case helpful additional info for some, given where the thread has drifted...When I enquired with Admiral about adding the 7.2RS to the multi-car policy a couple of years back, I quizzed them on their definition of "market value". After some internal consultation, they came back to me to explain that they would solely use trade price guides and nothing broader to determine the market value in the event of a claim. Since the trade price guides for such specialist models were at the time so out of touch with the market, we all agreed it made more sense for me to place the business with another insurer on either an agreed value basis or a version of market value that took into account actual market transaction pricing and not just the trade price guides. So I did. Of course, what I was told could have been inaccurate, or they could have revised their approach since, or maybe the trade guides have got more sophisticated so it wouldn't matter (I haven't checked)...

I've had a claim with Admiral. They initially offered the trade guide price, however, when provided with evidence on current car values based upon actual classified ads of similar cars the loss adjuster upped his offer accordingly.

Always think it pays to have comparable evidence of current sale prices of similar cars....if the worst should happen and a replacement car is required the whole idea of insurance is to put you in the same position as you were pre claim so if that means paying a premium to secure a similar vehicle say c£90k so be it this should be the market value and settlement figure (in the absence of terms stating capped to otr cost etc).

Problem is, with the majority of insurers, mainstream or otherwise, it is not possible to insure a new car at over list or agreed value until over 1 year old. But there is nothing to say you cannot insure at say £90k which should help your case should the worst happen.

Be interesting to know how the 'fortunate few' got on insuring their 911Rs as an extreme example of market value over cost.

Is anything else having a problem with 'circle marks' on their roof after it's been down for a while? There's two rubber stoppers in the boot which seem to be the culprit. Not sure if this will cause long term damage? Anyone else seen it?

Please do, your Spyder is better than the GT4, 911, or any other car on the planet, we get it biggrinwinktongue out

(now, back to me talking about when my car will arrive...)
No , I don't think it's the best car on the planet - I guess I was just trying to poke fun at the prejudice that some 911 owners have with "lesser models" . I guess I just think as an all round package the Spyder is amazing fun and great value compared to the 911 .

When's yours due ?

FWIW - I think the accolade of best car on the planet goes to the 997.2 RS - all just IMHO smile

Yes.

One puts a little depressed ridge in it each side too, as per your shot.

My roof has been up for only 1 mile out of 800, so it has the marks but no one will ever see them. :-)

P.S. Three each side if you look carefully.
