DISASTER!!

I can't believe it, i've just gone to put the roof up on the Spyder (all usual procedures followed) and on the last task where the remote hook catches the front of the windscreen and pulls the roof tight its missed the hole and the latch has stopped in the folded position, it won't come back down again neither buttons work to release the latch and the car has noted 'roof error service required go to dealer'.

I can't fold the roof back down again as the boot is shut and the car won't pop the boot open by any button (all tried), i'm just stuck with it half up and half down! Any suggestions? Has anyone else had this problem?

I've tried the usual, ignition off and on etc I can't believe it i've only had the car a week and I can't even drive it anywhere in this state let alone go to a dealer!

Sorry to hear this - message is a standard one - I've had it a couple of times , but it disappears once you've put the roof up properly - I think the issue will be not giving enough time for the arm to extend when pulling the roof up - the arm then stops it getting near enough to the top of the windscreen and it fails to lock into the catch - so what to do .

Why not try holding the door unlock button on the remote key fob for 3/4 seconds as this may bring it back to life - if this doesn't work do the same with the lock button to see what happens .

I'd also check that the flaps near the spyder logos are up as having them up may start the motor for the hook .

If all fails is wait and do as you did and turn engine on / leave it running and then after a few mins turn off and then try again with the buttons on the car.

Don't panic - similar has happened to me and it just sorted its self out after a bit of fiddling as decided above .

The other thing that you can try is lowering the roof and then lifting again , as this may again start the engine ( assuming you can get the rear lid open with the key that is )

Good luck smile

Hi,

Thanks for your response, the unlock button on the key fob after holding down for a few seconds isn't opening the boot unfortunately, neither pressing and holding all other buttons seem to have any effect. As you can see from the pictures the roof is 90% up the grab hook just didn't grab and now its stuck and won't come back down again.

I can see no way to open the boot, despite trying to restart the car leaving it pressing all the buttons and trying to fold the roof back little (of which it won't go because I can't open the boot). The flaps you have mentioned by the Spyder logos are of course already up as you can see in the pictures as the roof is up so I cant move them either, its so frustrating!

Sorry if anyone can correct the images 1, 2, 3, & 5 which seem to have flipped sideways that might help.

Sorry to hear, I can't offer any better advice than RSVP911, just a reminder to make closing the boot the very last act in putting up roof, this also helps the roof reach the catch.

Good luck in rectifying.

This happened to me.

Unclip the butresses/fins and put them back in place on the roof.

Turn on the ignition and move the roof back as far as it will go.

This should cause the hook to re-extend and you are free.

I hope this helps. It might have happened to me before rather than after I shut the rear boot - not entirely sure.

Also, something doesn't sound right there.

If the car thinks the roof is up and latched, it ought to work if (I know you said you tried...) turn on 5he ignition, pull and hold on the 'roof going down' switch.

Might need a delay first if it thinks someone has been messing/playing with the switches.

And splitter!

That's the last thing I'd do given the issues I've had. Call the dealer and see what they suggest.

That looks so tasty with the black interior. I love the sat plat wheels with GT silver. Classy car, that.

Sorry to hear your troubles.
I did a very similar thing yesterday whilst waiting for the channel tunnel.
I tried locking the hood latch with the key fob which normally workers fine (I do shut the boot first, so the roof can be quite taught) but unfortunately it missed the catch. I thought I could be in trouble as it wouldn't come back out.
Not sure exactly what I did, but I did need to put the flaps back up and fold the hood all the way back into the boot.
This then worked when I pulled the roof back up.
So I reckon your issue is just that you need to get that boot lid opened.
I take it you've tried the button on the sill (Ithink that's what I used).

Surely there must be some fix for releasing the boot lid, if it's got itself confused ?
Hope the OPC can help you if you've still had no joy.

Please let us know how this goes, as I think you may not be the last one to suffer these electronic glitches with the roof.
Good luck !

Just to point out that - while closing the boot last seems to be a sensible idea - when the boot is open the roof and fins are under (a little) MORE tension, not less (the opposite of the situation on the 987 Spyder, whose boot lid was conventionally hinged).

So closing the boot fully last thing makes the roof catch/hook less likely to engage properly on the windscreen header rail, but if that happens it also makes it easier to rectify things.

A paradox to keep 981 Spyder owners awake at night. :-D

Interesting, I'll check mine and report back.

I had a minor issue this morning when lowering the roof & then closing the rear deck - the deck didn't lock correctly & button in centre console didn't release the deck but the button on the sill to release the rear boot did work. Worth trying.

Personally I'd have been quite happy with the 987 Spyder roof design, simple and light, and not any real hassle to fit after some practice.

Yep. But I guess you have phone prep & play Spotify via bluetooth? Not sure if you can do it via an Aux cable. With the usb cable PCM just looks for mp3 or similar music files to play (I think). As I don't have phone prep i was wondering how I can stream music from the internet. I guess I'll download more tracks onto my phone & use the usb.

Tbh, I got on with the roof with the 981 Spyder really well from the off. Find it very easy. I think the minor problem this morning was that everything is still very new & I didn't push the roof down enough for the rear deck to securely close. Easily rectified though.
