Boxster Spyder
Discussion
the 987/2 Spyder roof is a true work of art, carbon fibre header rail with removable rear section. the 981 is a super car with a more practical roof but it is after all a poor copy of the 987/2 with an MGB style folding (fuggggly)un Porsche like frame.
I liked to drive the 987/2 Spyder that I owned with the roof up and the windows down with the rear section removed, like that the car is so stylish unlike any other.
all to their own but that is my opinion
if you cant stand the faf of the roof buy a GTS, if you cant stand soft tops buy a people carrier.

I must admit i got on very easily with the roof from the 'get go' with the 981 Spyder. But I think that has been down to the sales guy at the OPC. I don't charge much It's like anything - its very easy when you know how. it's actually easier than i thought it would be. Def go for the Spyder.
Decision made. Deposit paid on a Spyder. No idea when I'll be able to pick it up though due to work commitments!Great work DM, let the fun being !
Enjoy
I live in a world where I appreciate and enjoy stuff, rather than look for the irritations and the problems.
I loved my 987 Spyder's roof: it did things the 981 Spyder's cannot and was a hoot to use. Sometimes I got wet, and once a friend got soaked. Ha ha - it's something we still laugh about (not moan).
I love my 981 Spyder's roof: it's in the same vein but it easier although it has lost some unique functionality and has its own foibles.
I loved my non-Spyder Boxster's roof also: fabulously well engineered and a delight to use. But perhaps so easy to use that it spent too much time up, ironically.
Each roof is quite different. All are great, if you look at them through the appropriate mindset.

How are you guys getting on with your roofs?
I used to have a 987 Spyder and frankly the roof drove me nuts. The wind noise with the roof up gave me a headache, and the putting up and down was like a torture sentence.
I'm looking at buying either a Spyder or Boxster GTS. The only thing holding me back from jumping at a Spyder is the roof... It will be an occasional car, driven only a couple of times a week.
Cheers

It's a doddle - I posted a link to a video a few pages back - Spyder is awesome - go for it !!! I used to have a 987 Spyder and frankly the roof drove me nuts. The wind noise with the roof up gave me a headache, and the putting up and down was like a torture sentence.

It's actually all part of the character of this special car. I can't believe how some people describe it. It's designed to be roof off so noise over 60-70 is to be expected. It's not a daily driver. Torture....seriously .. laeumh said:

My 981 Spyder is a daily driver. I'll let you know how I get on. More of a torture to keep it in the garage & not drive it! Mind you my daily drive is only 8 mile round trip. all my Porsche's have been daily drives; unless there is snow or ice.Andrew911 said:

as it takes 5 or 6 miles to get the oil upto temp driving 4 miles 1 way will not be nice to the car esp for the first 2k miles and running in.on another note you will prob rot though the exhaust as in 4 miles you will not clear the system of water.
My granddad bought a new car the system rotted in 1 year, he did one mile to the shops and every thing rotted from the inside out !!!
what do you do ? drive at sub 3k to work and park up !

No. I bit the bullet and got my OPC to source me one. I wanted a forever car, NA and manual.
White, silver wheels, buckets, red stitching. Going to add the side graphics to it as I think it needs them...
Fair enough! I decided I should get one just after it was too late to order one White, silver wheels, buckets, red stitching. Going to add the side graphics to it as I think it needs them...

Keeping the revs below 4K for the first 2000 miles. I must admit the Spyder seems to get up to temp better than my 997. On arriving to work water is 90C & oil 100C. It's had a few longer journey's as well.
Mine takes forever to warm up - maybe 8 miles (ish) My RS (and GT3 b4 it) takes a fraction of the time .I use mine as a daily - no problem at all

as a fellow Spyder owner i'm interested to know your thinking on the below 4k for 2000 miles, which is different to the handbook.Genuine question
