Hi.

Has anyone had issues with ill fitting body panels to their spyders. The bottom of my near side door stands proud of the front wing

If you havent already fixed this is poor set up from the factory and just requires a spanner adjustment. Mine had something similar on the drivers door which I did myself in 5 minutes. Thing is Fritz isnt what he once was his eye sight is going so the odd fitting issue comes through. On mine he didnt align the door or fit the courtesy light shroud correctly or assemble the a/c pipes correctly so no a/c after 100 miles. All sorted now and yours will be with a minor adjustment.

So much for the QC boys & girls who are meant to be checking the cars as they journey through the factory to the car park awaiting the transporters

Even cars needing rectification by the factory seem to be left outside whilst correction is being done in this case to rear PU!

They just have too many cars per shift to get through to keep the suits upstairs happy so seem to be now using the British Leyland QC manuals from the 1970's madeek which seem to be working fine if your Porsche is an example of what to expect laugh

Glad to hear it. Not what you expect from german cars is it but quite common to have faults as i found on my VW as well.

Rusty Brake Hubs | All four of my Brake Hubs have gone very rusty on my 981 Spyder. I have treated it the same as my 987 Spyder, which is now 6 years old without a spot of rust. Has anyone else seen this? It's going into the OPC next week, but would be good to see if this is a problem for anyone else?

Been considering pulling the trigger on a 981 Spyder for some time now, I'm almost there but was hoping you guys could answer two concerns I have:

1. Unfortunately as much as I'd want to there is no chance of garaging the car in the area of London I currently live in a few days a week; will the roof be fine left out in all conditions for several days a week?

2. Again due to the tight road I live on and because I've had pretty restricting neck surgery, the thought of no park assist on a car of this value worries me slightly. Does anyone know if the reversing camera that was offered is available to retrofit? Asked OPC about sensors but the old warranty voiding issue came up - didn't realise at the time a camera could be specified new.

Would appreciate any guidance on the above. Thanks.

Hard to comment on the roof other than its robust , watertight and can be reconditioned whenever you feel it needs it .

Re reversing camera - I specced mine with it and it certainly helps , but in truth I dip the appropriate side mirror and use this more - all the camera is used for is real distance away from the wall / car behind. I think I could live without it. There are people who will retrofit something to do this. (Not withstanding the warranty issue - hard for them to blame unrelated items being an issue though - may be an argument if electrics have an issue ?)

More importantly - the car is epic - highly recommended smile

I can't see why the roof wouldn't be able to cope with being outside at all, not sure if things like tree sap etc would be an issue though ??

I've read about an after market rear camera integrated to the PCM, but if it's not offered as a Porsche upgrade then as you say there could be a potential warranty issue. I'd have thought they could maybe be reasonable and just void any PCM claims but leave the rest of the car covered ??

Anyway good luck, it's a brilliant car.

The roof is fine for everyday outside use as far as Im concerned so dont worry on that one. The parking sensors or lack of them as an option baffles me and I have the camera which does help but I still keep expecting a beep but it doesnt come.
The bigger issue is the vulnerability of the rims to kerbing.

What I would say is no car I have ever owned attracts so many positive comments and the more I look at it the more I see in it. I would say the build and running gear of a porsche combined with the handling of a lotus and the beauty of an italian stallion and yes I have had many of them.

Make it work if you can

Have to confess the camera is essential without parking sensors - its not the choice I would have made when designing the option list when all you really need are the sensors imo

Those rims are the worst I have ever owned and have me parking so far away from the kerbs currently

Agree with all these points. Scratched the rims three times in four months and lost out on a pub meal to avoid doing it a fourth!

Recently spent a week in France and Everywhere I stopped people were taking pictures of the Spyder. Only upstaged once, by an eighty nine year old Bentley smile The car was just a dream to drive both on the Autoroutes, and D roads.

I also would agree with all said above.
I've been driving mine a lot recently, plus did a big euro tour back in May. nearly at 7k now.
What I find most is just how accomplish the car is. It's both a car you can rack up the miles on the motorways and Autobahns, then just epic on the A's and B's.
I still have my 987BS and still really enjoy driving it too, but the cars are very different.

All I need now is a CR to complete my set :-)

Have to agree about the wheels as the Pirelli fitted have no shoulder protection over the rims it looks like the wheel is separated from the tyre and about to come off , can see me parking feet from the kerb unlike the 987 Spyder I have are on Michelin and cover the rims with a decent shoulder .Also the quality of the wheel paint on the 987 is better .The camera fitted is ok as long as its not raining (Daro you will never have this problem laugh ) but prefer the bleepers on the 987
