Has anyone owned both generations ? How do they compare ? I know the roof mechanism is much improved on the later car but not intending to drive the car with the roof up! No interest in PDK first gen either.
I had a 987 version and now have the 981.I wouldn't say the roof is much improved IMO, easier to put up yes but you can't remove it from the car, and can't open the boot without releasing the flaps, which seems a bit of a faff and oversight to me.
Speed, handling, ride, and sound are on a different level IMO in the 981, I did prefer the steering in the 987 to be honest, it's a bit lighter in the 981 and it does have a faster rack which is nice though.

I test drove a 981 and was slightly disappointed, and I've ended up keeping my 987.
The 987 feels more alive, and very nearly or just as quick imv.
