I've just been Google stalking PTS Spyder's....think it's Riviera Blue
I was asking about the pictures in Dari911 first post on this page. That ain't Riviera Blue (see mine on page 313 ). The second one could well be.I don't like the 'Lumps' either side the number plate but the 987 Spyder does work in blue. I've never understood why Porsche painted the roof clips red and not body colour?

Has anyone owned both generations ? How do they compare ? I know the roof mechanism is much improved on the later car but not intending to drive the car with the roof up! No interest in PDK first gen either.
I am fortunate I have both models both in Red .They do drive very differently the 987 is more raw and the gear change is far slicker in the 981 and the noice from the exhaust is different .If I could only own one it would be the 987 It will be a classic in years to come .The 981 is a stunningly fast car and well worth looking at.The roof is actually better in the 987 at least you can open the boot with the roof up ,the 981 is a bit of a faff tbo . I've owned both.
I guess the comparison is not a Rapier and a Broadsword but a Rapier(987) and a Scimitar(981). I would say that the 981 is a more 'grown up car' and yes VERY quick. If you want to have what is called 'fun' in PH circles then you will be having to be going a lot quicker in the 981.
I've taken both on European tours and both do that sort of thing with ease but the 981 was just a little easier (though the weather was a little better and the distances often a little shorter)on the trip. The 891 stopped traffic, for photo opportunities in France, the 987 just got 'nice car' comments.
I prefer the 891 but then my view is completely biased. I got the 987 secondhand and loved it but my 891 I brought from new.

I have had 987 Spyders between 2011-2016 when I got a 981 Spyder
I prefer the more aggressive looks and soundtrack of the 981 and the interior/roof system is in a different league but when I am long gone from this world I think the 987 may prove the better investment as in being a much cheaper car new but will probably be worth as nuch as an equivalent 981 version a bit like 930 Speedster v 964 Speedster both worth similar money some 28 years on for the 930 version
In the meantime if I could only own one Spyder it would have to be the ultra rare version with the 911 engine mid ship

Just recently sold my 981 Spyder purely for the reason I had to release some cash for another business investment. I have been looking around for something a bit cheaper and the local OPC gave me a 718 Boxster S for the weekend. Needless to say I was really dissapointed in the car for all the reasons ( specifically the engine) that have been mentioned on numerous threads on this forum. My advice to anyone on here is to keep and enjoy your Spyder for as long as you can. They are fantastic cars it may be a long time before Porsche get it so right at this price point again. If you are considering selling just go drive some the of so called replacement or equivalent offerings. That will settle you down again. Some where in the back of my mind I am plotting and scheming on how I may get back to one at some point in the future. .... anyone interested in SP16YDE number?

Got to thinking about numbers of cars and colours today, after someone said they had seen a 'car like mine', the previous evening. I remembered someone making a list early on in this forum thread, about who was getting what PTS. It never got far but here it is:
This does have on it the two VooDoo Blue, UK owners (I'll say nothing about the single Riviera Blue owner )
The gent who started it (NAVANOD was in the US and later on took delivery of a Spyder check out page 262, in this thread for some great pic of his car.
It turns out it was me they were following (the Green Leicester Tigers Baseball cap was the giveaway clue)

About to sell my CR. Do fancy a Boxster Spyder next - will £75k secure a reasonable spec?
check the classifieds, but you will struggle at 75k. Lowest are around 80k, so even with some discounts you are looking at 77/78k minimum. Look at specs closely - if you plan on using the spyder regularly, definitely get one with the reversing camera, as there are no parking sensors on the spyder and rear visibility is basically non existent.Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
