Boxster Spyder
Discussion
When I bought my Spyder last November I did a deal to install a Sat Nav total cost of that was mentioned at 4 grand thought it should have been gold plated at that price have since asked at Cambridge about a reversing camera and that definitely is not on the list although was told that I could do an aftermarket version but that the warranty on the PCM unit could be voided if anything went wrong.Have decided against it because of that.
Could I kindly ask for some advice please. Rashly and naively booked a trip to the ring and spa this summer. I have never been to either and having plenty of tuition on both to learn as much about the car and track.
The spyder 981 has done 5000plus miles and thinking what needs doing to protect and maintain for the 2 days.
Was thinking pads ,oil ,brake fluid , and possibly a geo. the geo bit was the specialists suggestion.
Any suggestions and guidance most welcome.

I have one and would say just do it. The smiles per mile are just fantastic and in my case it replaced a 997 GTS also a great car but the Spyder edges it for me.New member ......looking at buying a new model Spyder !

shame you are selling the best car you have driven :-( always makes me wonder why people sell up.
Always a reason behind someone selling. Great car as I've said. Enjoyed the Spyder for just under a year but needed to release some cash. Tbh I tend to change cars 18-24 months.Ducati996R said:
Are there any must have's on spec ?
My pref colour choice would be white or black but yet to see black other than on you tube ...any views ?
The Spyder looks great in pretty much any colour; which made it it tricky for me to decide on what colour to spec it. Just think it looks outstanding in solid white. I had also have had a few black/dark blue Porsche's & wanted a change. All the Porsche press material on the 981 Spyder featured white Spyder's from what I could see. You'll know when you see it in the flesh whether its right for you.My pref colour choice would be white or black but yet to see black other than on you tube ...any views ?

Looks great in any colour tbh but I like white especially with the red stitching and carbon. GT silver with the red leather also stunning. My pref colour choice would be white or black but yet to see black other than on you tube ...any views ?
Spec is subjective but essentials to me are buckets (heated being a cab) so has to be the GT2 buckets, leather pref with coloured stitching and platinum wheels with coloured centres.
PCM and heated buckets are 'essentials' for residuals.
Superb cars especially at the money.

not sure if heated buckets would be more residual desirable than the 918 buckets, but at end of day it's what the individual prefersSpec is subjective but essentials to me are buckets (heated being a cab) so has to be the GT2 buckets, leather pref with coloured stitching and platinum wheels with coloured centres.

Don't want to divert thread to a PCM debate again; but personally i don't think PCM is a deal breaker. The PCM is still the old naff one & not the latest PCM. However, I speced mine with sound package + which comes with the NAV buttons but not the mapping software, so its easy to retrofit PCM map software at the same cost for someone as what it would have cost new.Superb cars especially at the money.
I would agree that heated buckets are very desirable than armchairs.

Never had PCM fitted in my gt4 as the NAV is crap but also went sound pack plus,(which is exactly the same set up (obc)as the PCM in my old 987 spyder but without maps and nav. you even get the PCM manual, but not sure if it is just missing map software though but haven't looked into it as a retro fit!Edited by Andrew911 on Tuesday 21st March 14:51
I am fortunate to have both models and both are great in there own right .The 987 I think will be the more desirable in years going forward.
The 981 is still around the high seventies and some in the eighties at present and can see them possibly climbing a bit come summer .The 987 is a safe bet to have and prices are around the high forties .
I doubt there are no owners on here that have lost money on them since they bought then and also more importantly have had great fun. A nice Silver one at OPC Edinburgh and under 20k miles for £48.500 with a 2 year warranty even at this price I cannot see you loosing monies and summer is just round the corner
