I think the 981 spider has no rivals at it's price point , worth all the money. Sure the spec from car to car will differ , but they all sound amazing , and
Having this car in the garage is a bit like having miss world in an upstairs bedroom , and you can nip up to see her for an hour a week!
Totally agree after owning 987 Spyder x 2 and now on Spyder 3 so much so I am going to nip out and give her an hour of my time right now and a nice bubble bath when done laughlick

Like mind then, Having had Lotus for 5 years I was after a car which would give me that feel but be nicer, more reliable, and have a proper engine.

I did not want any of the weight back in, AC always goes wrong and ends up costing ££££
it's an open concept car so again AC seems pointless, PCM well it's an old unit and the cars noisy so again not needed, heated seats, well I only use mine roof off on nice days, so again not needed and you could not get heated buckets in those days anyway.

I love the car, you can feel the lack of weight for sure, it,s a very light car, PCCB are awesome, because you get the 6pot 350mm disks, over the tiny stock brakes.

I have no regrets and it fitted my remit of a working Elise :-)

I can see why people might want a radio, but not AC , PCM etc

My car always gets people talking and quite funny comments if you stand close to it at shows.

While I admire someone like 911R above, I think he is in the minority there. Really it all depends on how you use the car. The Spyder is the only car I own, so I use it most weekends regardless of weather. So, climate control, pcm, and heat seating were a must. Buckets, I hated when I sat in them, and while I would have loved PCCB, very few have them. I take it you are tempted by the white one?

On a 987 Spyder I'd say buckets, spider alloys, PSE and stereo are you must. A/C is a personal choice (I'd have it).

PCCB are a nice to have, but not healthier deal breaker.

Heated seats laugh and not a black car.

For me white or silver with silver wheels.

Nice to see one used every day, for me it has to many negative points for a daily just as I got annoyed with using an Elise 12 months of the year. But it's far more luxury than an Elise, as a daily I would have gone for a 981 GTS or some thing, ( or in my case my R) , the Spyder is a special car for the perfect days for me and a 4th car. A GTS a far nicer daily, the Spyder is VERY noisy roof up and that's the down side, so for me it is that open concept car I use it as and adding any crap back into it defeats the light weight Elise style car I was after. Because if you add all the bits back in you may as well have a Boxster S with a working roof , as they are the same car and a Boxster is 1/2 the price ! I can tell when my gf is in the car when I drive so that's the same weight all the crap adds back in and makes it back into a Boxster S but now with a st roof !

Every one who drives mine is gob smacked, even when I lent it to EVO they realised new cars feel a bit fake and over weight, and while one gets used to new and then says EPS is fine, it's not when you get back into a car like my Spyder and think EPS is still pretty st.

One of Porsche best cars and the most Elise type car Porsche make and hence why I dislike the new one, it misses the point of the old Spyder concept imo.

The noise roof up makes a radio pointless ! and roof down who wants the radio on !
I stripped the radio out my Exige it seemed daft to have it in there !

The thing is here a 987.2 Boxster S is such a great car at less money it's the far better buy unless you take the Spyder concept by the neck and dare to own a car stripped out this way the Boxster S wins hands down esp the back Ed cars.

Porsche spend £1000's and I mean £1000 s on RS weight saving and quote 20kg lighter etc etc

The one time Porsche do really make a light weight car people ruin it :-( and want it to be a Boxster S.

Hi....Not the white car...
A Sapphire Blue private sale ...the car will replace 3 Ducati's ( Keeping the 996R for obvious reasons if you know your bikes !! ) so will be used for enjoyment weekends and evenings ...no sat navy or heated seats ( unless you got stuck in traffic ) on the Dukes !!!!

Not that I want to put a damper on someone joining the Spyder fold but I am curious that you think a Spyder (or any soft top sports car) will offer something that a good motorbike wont?

I've had an Elise S1 (as a daily), I see the 987 Spyder as a grown-up version. If I wanted a fun stripped weekend toy I'd get a Caterham 360R.

Apart from comfort, company, cupholders, music, a top you can put up when it rains and the possibility of enjoying it in normal clothes?

I have both bike and Spyder by the way. Each has its advantages, but it's a two-sided fight.

I have never experienced anything with 4 wheels and I include car racing that gives me the same buzz as I got on 2 wheels but for me I packed in the Sports bikes due to the strong urge to stay alive, I had too many close calls on the road with other road users and myself pushing to the point it was all getting too dangerous.

I will prob either get flamed or ignored for this but after selling my Spyder I wanted something soft top to use when the sun was out that would keep me entertained , I didnt want to go back to Caterhams as was for mainly road use so I considered an older 981/ 987 , s2000 honda ,vx220 , Elise but after speaking with a few fellow petrol heads I tried and actually bought a MX5 Mazda and admittedly powerwise it wouldn't pull a hen off a nest but from a driving point of view it actually is great drive in some ways I almost think its more fun than the Spyder ever was, maybe sometimes less is more?

totally agree with all your points, even the negative ones! I had a cayman gts before, and I actually think its a better every day car for the reasons you mentioned. But damn, when its a dry day, and you can stand the cold, the spyder is worth all the compromised for those glorious times when you put the roof down and find some twisties! I test drove a turbo s back to back with my spyder and was shocked at how raw the spyder felt. Yes, the turbo was faster, but it sure didnt feel or sound like it...

Lovely car. 5k too strong for me, and owning my daily driver in black, I think they look great but what a hassle - breathe on it and it and looks dirty. I've seen a black 987 spyder around, and it looks amazing though.
