I first registered my interest in the spyder last march , and my dealer took 5k deposit from me on 4apr , and car was spec'ed also on same day.
Apparently he has 2 build slots and I am no3 but he seems to think I will get a car.
So not sure where I stand! Pi**ed off I was not ready on the 2nd apr , as was still convincing the wife!
Don't think timing of placing your deposit will have made any difference. OPC DP have made the decisions and who knows what criteria each one will have applied. I was first to register interest at my local OPC in Jan 2015 and they have offered me the first car which is great for me and they have played fair in respect of order of priority. Out of interest I've never bought a car from them before, do have a 987 Spyder but didn't place my deposit until w/c 8th April.

So don't beat yourself up too much on your 48 hour delay, the decision as to who got a car was probably already made. Good luck with getting the third slot.

Thanks DAW for your wise words.
Just have to wait and see then. Its only a car , but my intention is to hold the car and never sell it , passing it on to my son in 15 years time.

My treat to myself for lots of hard work and being frugal for the last 25 years!

Buy yourself a 987.2 Spyder in the meantime. Great cars to drive, roof nowhere as fiddly as people make out and a very sound investment to pass to your son.

BTW, I've got one to sell smile

Now confirmed by whom? and if 80 cars is the total for UK then they could make them all in 2015 hence no production slots for 2016 showing - Have numbers reduced so the Spyder GT4 can rain on the Spyders parade sooner rather than later idea
I do not think any cars will be built in 2016 or only for a couple of months as the production of 981.2 boxster will start either late this year or early 2016.
The 981.2 Cayman will most likely start late 2016 hence more gt4 to come next year!

they have to build another 100 or so GT4 in 2016 and 991 RS, so they may as well build another 100 spyders.

I cannot see why they would make less than the 150 cars org planned.

that's just 1 each for every UK OPC on a Jan, Feb build slot for 70 more 2016 cars.

The front of the new 981 Spyder is the one big visual improvement over the 987 Spyder IMO.

the Cayman R was built up to march 12 whereas the 987 spyder finished July 2011 likewise the standard 987.2 Cayman and Boxster was the same and the 981boxster arrived late 2011.unless all production of 981.1 ceases early next year and the 981.2 production starts spring may be the gt4 and spyder will be built early part of 2016 before new model arrival

Be interesting to know where the '150 cars originally planned' came from.

My 'reliable' sources have the number at well under a 100 over this year and next, as previously posted.

I have seen it on Porsche paper work along with the 200 GT4 number, if that has changed who knows, but it seems not, neither does this fake figure of another 200 GT4's
which just seems bks because a couple of the bigger OPC have 1 more allocation !

As I have stated maybe they have taken 20/30/40 Spyder slots and made them GT4 slots (engine shortage as well as seats and paint ? ) , bar that imo all the number stand as OPC don't have firm 2016 allocation yet.

more aggressive maybe but only in the dark, in the light it's not as nice with all that mesh !

The 987.2 spyder front I would say is sexy and goes with the rest of it's curves, the 981 Spyder is just less sexy, depends what you want.
Aggressive or sexy.

Probably a better comparison.

They both look great. I like the way the new 981 Spyder has the GT3 style vent on the front bonnet, it definitely has a 'Darth Vader' look to it! smile

For me, the 987 looks dated next to the 981.
My main gripe with the 987 Spyder was its effeminate looks, especially the front.

It definatley doesn't look dated. More of a different design strategy imo. The 987.2 didn't end up going aggressive with its looks, but still looks way better then the bog standard car whilst looking racy and elegant at the same time.

The 981 has done what all manufacturers do now to differentiate models. The more aggressive = the better the model. It still looks great but the hood seems even more pointless to me than the first one. At least the first one was no frills uber lightweight. This looses practicality of the rear boot opening and also the open rear window concept which is mega on days like today.

The rareness of both models however is great. Will only be a good things for residuals in 10 years time.

The trouble with modern cars is they do 'date' as soon as they're not the current version.

That isn't to say that in a few years time the 987.2 look won't still look fresh...certain cars age better than others.

that's why I like it, as I say it's sexy, I go into the garage just to lick it.

I don't get why every car needs to look aggressive now, most new cars will not date well and they all are staring to look the same, even hot hatch's
