Not for me I'm sorry to say. I had the 1st 2 year service on my 987 CR on Friday and they lent me a 981 2.7 Cayman and it was like chalk and cheese. Not talking about engine size, there were just so many dislikes I think the CR has spoilt me and it is going to take something very special to replace it at a similar relative price level.

It had "Some" nice features like the electronic display on the right of the clocks, and I preferred the chime for the reverse sensors. The wipers seemed more efficient and the brake pedal felt nice and firm but that's really as much as I liked.
First dislike was purely aesthetic, I much prefer the lovely curved wing of the 987 you view through the screen rather than the angular crease line look of the 981, and the overall exterior look of the car hasn't taken me yet. The suspension was softer than mine but when it hit a bump it seemed to boom through the rear and the rear tyre/road noise was also very noticeable. I didn't like the electronic handbrake although the steering wasn't as bad as I expected, in fact it felt ok really. The gear change was notchy and imprecise compared to mine. All in all I don't think I would consider one unless the GTS version gets it right
The other thing about the 981 is that the clutch felt really woolly. It was as though it had a hydraulic anti stall built in. No sharpness or feel to it at all.

I loved my 987c gen 2 2.9...it was at the time the best car I've ever owned. But I personally think the 981 is so much better in so many ways - the best looking in the current Porsche range...neater than the 991. It's interesting to hear the opposite view.....perhaps it's the unique set up and feel of the Cayman R. Certainly most people who own them seem to love them!It had "Some" nice features like the electronic display on the right of the clocks, and I preferred the chime for the reverse sensors. Was at silverstone last week and drove the new cayman 2.7 pdk.
The new electronic handbrake thing was not for me, correct me if i am wrong but the front and rear luggage area seemed smaller than my 2012 cayman gen 2 they have made a slightly bigger cabin and must have nicked a few centimetres off the front and rear.
Didnt like the height of the new centre consul.
Other than that the car went well.
