It was a little independent dealer that said that to me and I wasn't actually looking to buy at the time. They just mentioned that the white Cayman etc were difficult to sell relative to red, black. Perhaps they were just unlucky with previous sales.
I think the only colour I don't like is the green! I wouldn't go for the red either but I think it still looks good with black wheels!
I have green (peridot) and it is in your face, but it is a R and should be ;-)I think the only colour I don't like is the green! I wouldn't go for the red either but I think it still looks good with black wheels!
I did want red, but as stated never seen one for sale.
I would buy white if my other car was not white.

Yes is the short answer. I have a 996RS for the manual buzz. I sprint a 968CS and I am 17 100ths off winning the class from 2 GT3RS's. I want to try and win the class in something "less" than a GT3. I think the PDK Cayman R might be the car to do it. Anyone want to buy a bare metal resprayed 968CS in white??Far Cough said:
That cage looks very good but a quick google search reveals that the company can be an arse to deal with which is a shame. One of the few cages I've seen that dont require any sort of butchery of interior trim.
That cage picture is also my car !! I bought it from Brian at Jasmine Porschalink who is a UK agent for the Heigo cages. I fitted it myself in less than a couple of hours. Most time consuming bit was removing the rear trims to get to the rear turrets. You can leave the turret trims off completely or what I did is to buy a used set (Again from Brian at Jasmine) and cut some slots in for the brackets to protrude. As you can see in the pictures I remove the diagonals and harness bar when not doing any events.Hope this helps.
PS: Nice pic at the start Chris, I'd love to have a better chat with you sometime about your plans for next year etc.

Well I bought the Cayman R and sprinted it last weekend at Debden. I won my class, beating a GT3 and GT3RS. Very happy. See winning lap below:

well done!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5QqZKbxPwc
but what a shocking 'track', looks more like a quarry road. And racing around bollards rather than tarmac edge must take some getting used to.
But nice run.
I looked at a couple of Cayman R's, but I preferred the 981 by a large margin. I could never get used to the 987, always looked a little feminine to me. The R remedied that a little bit, but the overhangs at either end were just too long.
I do believe that the R will become a bit of a classic and there are a few about at the moment.

the 987 looks like a real Cayman the new one looks like a shrunk Panamera/911 baby and has no smooth lines, every panel has crease lines in it, which are quite ugly imo.
the old one just flows with curves which make the car like a leopard ready to launch after it's prey.
the new car just lost all that and went all MR2 on us.
not only loosing those curves but putting crease lines not only on the back ones but also on the front wings !!!!
but the best point is nothing else comes close to driving like the R in the Porsche line up(or any other make) and resale is very strong.
Still the best car I have owned from 50 cars.

I kinda agree with this. The 981 looks rather generic compared to the 987 (which has a bit more character).the old one just flows with curves which make the car like a leopard ready to launch after it's prey.

And as they say, if we all liked the same things........I do think a lot more people like the look of the R more than the normal 987 and to me the 981 is a thing of beauty.
Also as a daily driver the R may have been a little hard core around these local forest roads. But they are undoubtedly a fantastic sports car.

Ok, I am biased. But I certainly would not say it's generic. Due to the fact that the bodywork is unique to the range, I find it a quite striking car. The 987 shared at least the doors with a 911 and to me seemed a little parts bin. I am not 100% certain of that and I'm open to correction.
I would also guess that a lot of 987 drivers will agree with you and 981 drivers agree with me. Will may never agree on this subject, apart from the fact that 987 or 981, they are both terrific drivers cars and the CR is a great, but perhaps flawed car.
