I agree the R looks so much nicer than the standard one it looks so much more special than a standard car!Much more focused and serious IMO biggrin

they are both terrific drivers cars and the CR is a great, but perhaps flawed car.
What do you think is flawed on the R ? just interested in peoples views as I don't hear a bad thing about it any where.

As for 981 vs 987 it's starting to make no odds as the R is so expensive you can buy a 981 Boxster for less money already, so it's not about costs or what people own/afford either.

Owners like me could have a newer car for less money but choose to stay with the older car because it drives and looks better. (ofcourse the looks thing is personal) and I do have my name down on a Cayman GT4 but it needs to be bloody good :-) ie have a 3.8 engine and 6 pots as standard.

I think Porsche got the R spot on even though people wanted it more hardcore, imo that would have ruined it.

i would be interested in the gt4 but i fear its going to be a turbo 4 pot!why?because the gts is the runout 981.1 and the 981.2 is 12-18months away and that will be a 4 pot turbo and any R/gt4/spyder will follow!but heres living in hope for a 3.8 but it might be cheaper to drop the 3.8 in the current R and have the better looking car!i am in the 981 is ugly camp and the new gts looksvomit

disagree the 981 gearing is the same as the 987.2 yes the gearing could be shorter but my spyder is no worse than the 987.1cayman i had before and even my 986s the first 2 gears were long and if you think they are bad have you checked out the ratios on a gt3!

I hate the look of the 987 but absolutely loved my Cayman R...go figure!

The subtle design changes and lower stance improved it massively.

I do however like the way the new Porsche's are going, after getting use to them.

we have been though this, every single review of the new manuals state the gearings to long at over 82 mph in 2nd.

the 2nd and 3rd gears have been shortened over the 987.1 car which I had in the 987.2.

the 987.2 runs smaller over all wheel/tyre combo which puts the speeds higher in the 981 over the 987.2 even though the final drive might be the same.

the PDK cars run about 66 and 99 mph in 2nd and 3rd gear over 82 and 120mph in the manual 2nd and 3rd gear.

if you find them ok then buy one, but I don't see you doing that either, all well and good saying things are ok when you don't want to buy one.

as for standard 987.2 car they do look daft with the massive wheel arch gaps. but that's the only thing that puts me off them, the new 981 look just as daft in that dept.

It's not every single review is it? In fact most reviews state the manual is the one to have. I test drove both and yes it is a little long, but the manual drives so beautifully.

You clearly dislike the 981 so much that you'll say just about anything to justify a 987. The 20" wheels fill the arches on a PASM equipped car very well.

I don't have to justify a 987, I just like them better for looks.

as for the wheels lol ok if you think they look ok than that's that and the 987.2 is just as bad if not worse.
both look stupid.

I swear people will say black is white on here, but ffs that's a wheel arch gap and then some.
top car is PASM bottom car non PASM both look daft non PASM looks just stupid.

i agree re the wheel arch gaps, the standard suspension setup looks far too jacked up, the size of the wheels is not the issue. PASM cars are ok because of the 10mm drop, R is better with 20mm drop. Re the photo above not sure top car has PASM, does't look like it from the gap.

the cars are not the same, I took the Picture of the top car, the bottom car is in Scotland and a non S

agree on the orange, it looks great, Porsche and wheel arch gaps , not so great,, put me of a normal 987.2 car straight away PASM or not, they look daft.

Not sure either of those 2 orange cars have PASM from those pictures?

This is PASM equipped and looks nothing like.

Maybe they still have the transport blocks in wink

so what do we need to know?

The gear & axle ratios:

Transmission
Fifth Gear Ratio (:1): 0.84
Final Drive Axle Ratio (:1): 3.88
First Gear Ratio (:1): 3.50
Fourth Gear Ratio (:1): 1.09
Reverse Ratio (:1): 3.44
Second Gear Ratio (:1): 2.12
Third Gear Ratio (:1): 1.43
Trans Description Cont.: Manual
Trans Type: 6

Rear tyres are 265/35 ZR19
revs till 7400

31,51,75,99,128 in the 1st 5 gears - does that sense? the wheel circumference is 265 + 70 * 22/7
