987 Brake Discs & Pads
Discussion
I did my front brakes, discs and pads, with all OEM parts that I got from EuroCarParts for around £300. Very easy to do yourself, I find a nice clear guide online that had images showing every step. First side took a few hours, second side less than an hour once I'd worked out the easier way to do it!
Pagid are a good brand - but it seems they are abusing this name by selling cheap discs & pads at low headline prices at Euro Car Parts - I know of at least 3 Porsche specialists who've told me they won't fit them anymore due to problems (warping from enthusiastic use I think) which they never see with the other brands they fit.
I bought the complete OEM set along with the anti squeal shims and wear sensors from either design 911 or Porscheshop (can't remember) for about £500ish
I did it myself with a friend who knew how, took 4 hours at a leisurely pace
If you take it to a garage, anywhere can do it, I wouldn't bother with a Porsche specialist, there is nothing specialist about the job & it should cost 2-3 hours labour maybe £150ish tops

I replaced my front discs at 2 years because of corrosion - so I would be interested in which Fleabay supplier you got them from with that guarantee.
These are available at £99.95:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PORSCHE-CAYMAN-987-FRONT...
Incidentally, the listing for 986 model is now £148.95 but the Cayman / 987 ones listed above are, I believe, exactly the same.

I trusted the Pagid brand and fitted their discs and pads to my 987. I had bought them from ECP. I bedded them in properly before using them and a few weeks later at Bedford the pads literally fused on the discs after 1 sighting lap, removing most of the braking power. I tried all morning to remove the residue using different techniques but to no avail. Prior to that I was using old and tired OE Porsche pads on the same car which never faded.I have spoken to several indies too who only fit Textar pads now. I did the same and they were perfect, exactly like the OE pads, which I think they are. They cleaned off the discs in 2 weeks and then didn't fade on track under the same conditions.
I am sure for road use the cheapo Pagid would be OK but for a few quid more...
It would appear that ECP have the exclusive use of the Pagid brand in the UK for entry level pads and will put any (possibly Chinese) compound in the box.
The irony is that both brands belong to TMD Friction. In summary, DO NOT USE PAGID PADS UNLIKE THEY ARE THE PROPER ONES (RS29 etc,,,).
