Cayman GTS

Gents, stupid question, anyway: any issues in having a mid/late January build date with February delivery? I don't know why, an OPC told me that usually after December deliveries start on March.

Is the GTS really that different from the S??

Seems strange that the slight engine changes and options available on the S make such a difference....

Struggling a little with this as I was contemplating replacing my older S with a brand new one, am happier with the 19 inch wheels as I love the supple ride of my PASM equipped car, and not particularly into the sport exhaust. Otherwise the S I'd spec would have almost all the GTS items on it. Manual transmission. Would like the perkier engine. 60K absolute max.

Mission profile is rural roads, driven pretty briskly... Quite often have sport mode on for the throttle response, but PASM always in normal.

What to do, what to do...

I had a gen 1, manual S for 7 years as a daily driver and now have the GTS. I went for PASM, PDK, PTV. The ride in sports mode is actually smoother than the gen 1 S on 19" wheels. The sports exhaust is loud, but a glorious sound. This car is so much better than my old S, so can thoroughly recommend it. For the money, I think the GTS is good value versus the S.
FWIW: I used to always drive my old S in sports mode with PASM set to normal. PASM set to sports mode on the GTS is not as hard as it was on the old S ... no more teeth-rattling

Now that is interesting info... I thought on the 20" wheels normal would be heading in the direction of sport on the old car.

Good to hear a comparison from someone who has gone from current S to GTS.

I will stick my neck out. I will say now I have a nearly new s. Not a gts. I had driven a gts boxster and cayman and there is no way you could tell the difference in power. I think if you plan to stick a load of options then it makes sense. For me the rear lights ruin it for me. Sounds silly I know and all personal and easily changed but I think they look terrible!

I love the metallic red but 1500 extra is nuts. At the end of the day any boxster or cayman is top of the class so get what you like and enjoy!

The GTS is my first Cayman and I came from a C4S. The ride quality of the GTS with PASM in normal mode is outstanding. Press the button and it firms up noticeable but in a good way. Can't coment on the speed difference but as Edo says they are all plenty fast enough for road driving which ever model you choose.

It's the same car !

The only reason the gts hit the headlines were because porsche fitted the sports chassis to the press cars, and the press loved them

But when they fitted the same set up to the S the press said pointless and for track only.

All a bit daft, shame about the smoked rear lights and red dials

Also a shame most owners did not spec sports chassis :-( buckets or gts pack .

It took me four long test drives (two manual, two PDK) to come to this conclusion, and I had 4 months between submitting the order and the order locking to think it over and change my mind. I'm not an old codger either (let's say a fair bit younger than Chris Harris). However, I have a fun-enough daily driver with a great 6-speed of its own, and I find its more fun to drive that "slow car fast", so with this I get to enjoy the best of both worlds. PDK offers the insane immediacy of shifts than a manual just can't, and I still have a manual for the things PDK can't give me.

No sport buckets because you can't get them in the US, otherwise I would've gotten them. Side markers will be replaced with LED clears from a 991 GT3 on delivery. Right now it's pending a very extensive clear bra install (Xpel Ultimate). I plan on keeping this car until I'm dead.

Has the Adaptive cruise control incl Porsche Active Safe (PAS) option been available before, as I just noticed it the other day? I'll be adding the option to my build.

That's a very nice spec car you have there, its pretty similar to mine. I also came to the same conclusion on the PDK, which I have gone with.

Ok, but I think what matters is the build date, isn't it? I don't think Porsche will release a new model with new reg plate in March

I mean, if I decided to sell the car, the buyer would be interested in the build date or MY rather than reg plate (uk matter...)

I took delivery of my Cayman GTS yesterday with the X73 Sport Suspension (aka Sport Chassis) on platinum satin 20" Carrera S wheels. Although I'm in the US, New Enfland roads are similarly narrow, and are often in terrible shape from being wracked by heavy snow and road salt, followed by summers that can easily hit 35C.

That said, as I drove over a large suspension bridge yesterday, I was floored. I knew I was driving over expansion joints non-stop, but they were barely perceptible. Only on a stretch of highway under incredibly heavy construction (graded road, jarring transition bumps) was it "uncomfortable". Yet, it was still far more compliant than my 2008 Mazda MX-5 ever was.

I noticed you added the GTS interior for an extra £2k. I thought that was included with the GTS but reading the detail it seems to be contrasting stitching onto the standard GTS interior, is that correct??
