Do people still listen to the radio???
It's better than the white noise offered by the standard analogue one. Even if it's occasional use.

Fair enough, but I'd be paying a few hundred pounds so the next owner can enjoy the radio smile

Yeah, you'll be too busy folding and unfolding those mirrors anyway... ;-)

Hi Guys (&Girls) thought I'd introduce myself. I ordered my gts yesterday here is the spec:

http://www.porsche-code.com/PFPSAB61

I'm based in London, and plan to use the car as a daily, along with some track and touring. Went up to the PEC on Tues and drove their carmine red gts and fell in love with it, hence the outlandish colour. Should be taking delivery in Dec.

Obv I have read through this entire thread. Anyone based in London?

I hope so! It's my first proper sports car. I'll be joining in with the Porsche CLub GB stuff, and I usually go to Ace on my bikes, so will go along to the porker night there. Where are you based bud?

I've got one on order as well, gets built in about 2 weeks and should have it by early November.
I went a bit mad with the spec though... but I've wanted one for long enough so thought why not get it how I want it biggrin

SWEET BUILD!I don't see anything wrong with speccing it the way you want. I love the agate grey PJLarge. It was one of my other favs. Looks amazing with the Ceramic brakes. You must put up some pics when you take delivery.I like how you've made it a hardcore drivers car, but with every mod con you could want for it to be a truly luxurious gt.

My main gripe was PASM vs SS. Having done the PEC day, I felt like PASM would give me comfort over longer journeys where I don't engage sport or sport plus. What made you decide to go for the SS?

I'd be up for that. The roads around royston etc can be fun. Let's see where everyone else is based and organise a ride (drive?) out somewhere halfway.

Yep - seemed to be an unnecessary option to be honest given the general opinion seems to be that the car is over-tyred anyway. I've got no intention of taking it on the track so put the cash into options I'd get more day to day value / use out of.

There's a cracking road from the A505 down to Barkway with a few pubs en route, B1368 I think.

Fair enough, makes sense. I feel the diff working in street driving though, so not sure about the 'track-only' perception that exists.

Thanks - my heart said yellow but head said grey so that's what I went with, the PCCBs give a hint of colour and lifts the exterior a little. Sure I'll put some photos up when it arrives.

What made me go for the X73 suspension / chassis? I spent a lot of time researching this and there seemed to be a common theme that the X73 cars feel different and give far more driver feedback, for me this was all I needed to know. The local OPC loaned me a Cayman with PDK, PASM and Power Steering Plus - the power steering plus completely ruined the car and I'm no fan of automated gearboxes. Sure it'll be a firm ride, but I've had my fair share of Audis so I'm sure it'll be light years ahead of that. Time will tell, in an ideal world I'd have driven something closer to the spec I wanted, but that's easier said than done!

Argh! I'm confused now because I drove the manual with PASM and the pdk with x73. Love the pdk, but was concentrating so hard on making the pdk work that I didn't really pay too much attention to the ride. I'm only 25, and have no back pain or comfort concerns (I tour comfortably on a sportsbike). shall I just press the f**k-it button and get the SS?

Yes!
Bear in mind the lower ride height though so if you have a steep driveway then things could get interesting... You could always move house as well :-)

I've ordered a GT Silver Cayman GTS with x73 but my build was locked before I had a chance to compare x73 to PASM.
I'm coming from a 997 Carrera GTS with PASM (+3yrs from new), normal was fine but not special/sports car enough and another mode was essentially just a bit harsh and crude - so ramped up damper stiffness when really you probably want more spring rate. Sometimes PASM in the 997 felt a bit unnatural in what it was trying to do.

For comparables I have had a 981 Cayman S with 20inch wheels on the base suspension for extended test drives over a weekend. I found this impressive but could have done with tightening up - roll and dive control.

From my day behind the wheel of the carmine red gts @ PEC silverstone - x73 is a perfectly liveable option.
I went there with this sole purpose of trying to test this out on every surface I could - so I asked to go out on public roads which we were able to do. Obviously I wanted it to be ok but I really tried to be objective and true to myself about whether or not this was something that instinctively felt right or wrong as a long term proposition.

I thought it was fantastic - yes it is firm but is was never harsh and we found some roadworks roads to go over to validate and I really tried to crash it over the more hostile parts of the road.

Key thing for me is that it made the car feel like a sports car should imo - the responses were very natural and really well managed - and predictable. It got to the point were I just wasn't evern thinking about the ride anymore and was just enjoying the feedback. I really believe a lot of the benefit you feel on the 981 platform is down to the extra stiffness of the new chassis which allows the suspension to work better, even with 20inch wheels.

PASM is great as it give you a wide range of operation but for me I wanted that slightly more connected feel from the seat of my pants and I think that's what the x73 option delivers.
