Lowest points to the ground are the plastic flap/dam right behind the brake ducts.
Yes but that doesn't mean they are the bits that will scrape when going up a sloping drive.

Are you sure? I've touched the ground a couple of times. Checked then and only the dams edges are scraped, brake ducts edges are still brand new.

Yes - that's not where mine has scraped. That doesn't mean that under some circumstances you wouldn't scrape where you do. But imagine going up a steep concave ramp (or even try and put your nose over a kerb) - it is the front of the apron which will scrape. Go up a more convex ramp (my case) and it's likely to scrape further back. I scrape up my sons drive, which isn't very steep, is convex and comes off a fairly heavily cambered road. rxpandy has a gate post - if , as I would presume, in the middle of his drive - then the brake ducts are not going to be a problem - but the splitter might be, depending on how much his post protrudes and how low the splitter is. (I'm not sure whether the splitter is actually the lowest point in the middle of the car on the GTS)

It seems very difficult to me to scrap the center splitter. It is more upfront and not as low as braje ducts and dams.

RTBO - drive up the start of an incline e.g some of the ridiculous traffic calming humps around here , as you approach it the wheels are further back than the front of the car so the incline takes affect on the front nose before the wheels catch up.

There are various kind of bumps and gradients, I understand in some cases you can scrap the center splitter.

Anyway I am basing my comments on what I've experienced so far.

Ah yes! Around Thornhill in Cardiff are some of the most stupid speed humps you can imagine. If I were up that way I wouldn't dream of taking the GTS near the speed humps as anything lower than an average saloon is in trouble. I would mention again that I was concerned about my GTS (with SS) but to date, throwing in ferry dis/embarking, rough roads, and 'normal' speed humps I have not had an issue.

As touched on above (no pun intended) we just need to be mindful of the obvious sharp dips in roads and drives but I consider those identifiable, and usually avoidable.

So I've found 2 very similar spec GTS's at dealers new circa 65K and a slightly more expensive one at 67K, all unregistered so what's the score in terms of discounts I should expect and do I play them off against each other? If so how?

Just before quarter ends always seems a good time. Year end might even be better. Often they want to hit targets. I have been offered quite extraordinary deals at these times. Playing dealers off doesn't always work BUT if both offer some sort of deal that smacks of end of year discounting then maybe I would push as they obviously want to sell and -unlike like usually- you would have the upper hand. I would see what they offer rather than push a discount upfront. If nothing is forthcoming then the best discounts I have seen across the forums is about 5% (disclosed, undisclosed maybe higher but from my experience probably not).

This all pre-supposes that a dealer wants to deal at all. The GTS is very popular...!

Maybe there is a deal to be done if you can put a deposit down before year end too... wink

One OPC that I have been speaking with has offered GAP insurance, track system with installation. But no actual discount on the GTS. My build is £71k (taken a good couple of months to tweak it to what I exactly want). Other dealership local to me are not really offering anything so far. I'm in the real hurry as current car doesn't go back until Dec 2015, but want to get my order placed and have something to look forward to

My spec was £73k, Solihull rounded it down to £70k for me.

Deal I was offered was £20k upfront then £20k at end of deal. Remainder paid monthly over 4yrs. Total payable was £79k, against car cost of £71k. As I have nothing to compare against not sure if this is a good deal or not.

I paid £69.5k cash and was offered zero incentives; they would not even throw in gap or any protection cover. I paid for the gap cover because most insurers underpay. On the plus side I specced it exactly how I wanted it and my OPC snaffled a production slot for me so it arrived in six weeks from order.

What other cars did you guys consider over the GTS?

I'm in an very fortunate, but interesting position, in that I can spend up to £100k on my next car. With Mrs Garyhun's car being the sensible one for family activities, it means I will spend the money on my only car. I've never been into owning more than one car (or 2 before the Mrs came along) so the car will have to do most things - be fun, capable of long drive comfort (South if France) maybe a track day (but not definitely) and generally give me that feel good factor.

I'm seriously considering a Merc AMG GT (although delivery would not be until around March 2016 I am a patient type and willing to wait) but a Cyman GTS would be a considerable
saving over that.

So I am interested in what other people considered (or maybe you didn't) and why you chose the GTS. I'm wondering if, at 51 years, I may be making a soft choice smile

Thanks!
