Are all caymans GTS built in Germany? I thought caymans were also built in usikaupunki in finland? I'm in the uk by the way

The car left on Monday - pdi should only take a day I'm still crossing everything I have for a fri delivery - esp if it's definitely coming from Germany!
Mine was on the same build run. biggrin

My BGTS was built on the 14th Jan, left Germany on the 20th and arrived in Sheerness on the 21st. It is finally due to arrive at the dealership tomorrow. Due to collect on Friday biggrin Hopefully yours will be quicker but expecting a delivery in a week is probably wishful thinking.

Valmet stopped making Cayman and Boxster in 2011. All made in Germany now.

Supposed to be picking my car up Friday. Just been told today it's only just left the factory. Not sure whether that's finland or Germany ??

Gutted if if goes past the weekend and first drive I get is to work...
Seems like with me your OPC might be being a bit optimistic. Mine took a week from leaving the factory to arrive in the UK, then sat at the docks for 5 days before collection, this last bit I was really pissed off about given my car was already 6 weeks late. PDI etc took a day. Also there is registration to consider but I think your OPC can get ahead of the game there.

Sorry not to be the bearer of good tidings frown

Ah cool! When is yours due for collection? From other posts it's looking unlikely for Friday for me now. Damn it.

I've asked for 1st / 2nd March as I have a 15 plate to go on the car, I will speak to the dealer next week as I need to get a few details from them.

Looks like I arrived a tad late too the party compared to most with my BGTS order 3 weeks ago meaning a looong wait: just spoken to my salesman and Porsche UK will be releasing build slots for Q3 i.e. July onwards, as everything is full until then frown My initial timescale was estimated as May/June. Oh well, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Maybe the new Boxster Spyder will make a few BGTS order-ers jump ship and shorten the queue fingers crossed.

At least I'm booked in for the Silverstone freebie on 13 Feb, making a whole day of it and taking my GT3 for use in the afternoon.

Slightly off topic but....

Factory collection will be starting again after March - I emailed the German factory collection address like another PHer did and they also contacted my dealer to say "we haven't told you this, but factory collection will be available...."

Btw, if you send an email to the German address, don't expect a reply from them, chase you dealer if you haven't heard anything after a while.

Just a little worried about this post as I ordered mine two weeks ago with a build date for first week of April and delivery at end of April possibly 1st week of May. If I have been told fibs then I wont be at all happy as I turned down a dealer car which was 90% perfect but would have been happy with it.
The fact I could spec my exact options made the small...ish wait worth while!!!

I will be calling them today.

This was my experience with my BGTS. I gave a £5000 deposit to my OPC *only* on the basis they could secure a build slot within the next 3-4 weeks as they had promised me. Six weeks after my deposit the car arrived, so I was lucky that a. my OPC grabbed a slot and b. they did not tell me fibs to get my deposit.

There is every possibility that your OPC does in fact have a build slot as they claim, but make your deposit dependant on them keeping their word, as I did.

They could have had someone pull out of another order in their group and you got. My OPC said they'd have a look for earlier than May build slots that might have become available when I ordered but there were none. Do let us know how you get on, I am slightly miffed with my OPC having been quoted May/June initially and having had it slipped at least 1-2 months already. I had the salesman kindly apologizing for not calling be back ref factory collection which was nice, yet no kind of apology from the OPC regarding "optimistic" build dates.

Thank you for all your replies, my mind is at rest after contacting the OPC.
They have given me a commission number and build date around beginning of April is confirmed so looking good for end of April or May.

Still hard waiting for it though.... smile

I can still change some options if I wanted so I am really hung up on two things. One is the steering wheel, I do like the alcantara sports wheel but want the multifunction part so have change it to the heated carbon fibre multifunction one as I also have the GTS interior option which adds some carbon fibre trim parts so I think this would go well together. Secondly I like the sports suspension but thinking I might prefer the PASM for comfort instead, would anyone know if there have been issues with speed humps? I do like the lowered look of the SS....

Thats good news for you- but comm number doesn't mean that your slot cannot move or change.
Myself and another member had this experience from an OPC - I got my comm number when i placed my deposit in at the end of July with a provisional spec - based on an mid October build. I finalised my build spec at the end of August but the car didn't actual get built until 2nd week of November and I collected in the last week of November. I was highly annoyed as I was sold on based on the October date, plus the weather was still nice and warm.
I'm not sure what it is but there just seems to be a general problem with OPCs not estimating dates correctly or production capacity at the factories and nobody is owning up and telling the full story. Maybe the growing pains of moving towards being a 'mass-volume' manufacturer compared to times past. The sports cars seem to suffer in order to advance the other catagories in the brand which are now the mainstay by volume of units sold it would seem.

I live in the center of Islington. There are speed bumps in every direction. Some worse than others. The GTS with SS is very low. However, by being very careful, taking them slowly and at an angle where you can, you can avoid scrapes on NEARLY all of the bumps. Sometimes I end up using my other car during peak times etc simply because I can't be bothered with the agro from 99% of other road users who tailgate/overtake/honk/swear at you as you do 4mph over each bump. As soon as you are out on proper roads though, hey presto, you are in the ultimate expression of the GTS for hard driving... It's a small sacrifice and I'm glad I went for the SS. I did agonize over it for ages, and I've had two Caymans with PASM and a Boxster with the standard suspension setup. The SS is MILES better for spirited driving.

Having said that, I've been to places like the Isle of Skye in the GTS where road conditions are generally very good, only to be caught out by a hidden pothole/dip/ramp that has resulted in the suspension bottoming out. Combined with the low profile tyres, this makes for a very loud bang and a little bit of scraping on the brake ducts/front spoiler. Scary - but at the end of the day, it's a car and it's easily fixable.

If you are umming and ahhhing, I'd say just go for the SS. You won't regret it.

Don't know where you are based. But if in the South East feel free to give me a shout and you can come try my carbon mf steering wheel. I don't have the gts interior but have full carbon and extended leather instead.

Wow, didn't expect that. I am Northamptonshire so maybe a bit far from you? Can you post a picture?

Thanks
