I am at PEC next month before I finalise my spec. Currently spec'd Bose but looking at Burmester. Read a few reviews and hoping to check comparison when I am at Silverstone. Curious to know if Burmester in a GTS is worth the extra £££.

Fair to say, maybe the real weakness of this brilliant car, the standard one sounds pretty awful.

If you're going to spend that kind of money then why not spec one aftermarket? Apparently it only voids the 3rd year warranty I hear, and not the manufacturer's warranty?

I have to say you Cayman GTS owners are lucky people.

I drove one on track in Las Vegas this week (first time I've driven any Porsche), it was very good. Think I enjoyed it more than my old Exige in someways even on track, and will no doubt be a far better road car. Need to start saving for one.

I followed it up with a 430 Scuderia, another level of performance and noise, truely special, but 4 times the value!

Please excuse these ramblings as I doubt anyone on this forum is in need of hearing about cars they have already bought (and already sold in a number of cases) and long ago been through the process that I am just starting. But just in case there is a late adopter like me...

Yesterday I went to the PCE at Silverstone before locking the build of a CGTS, it was also my first ever drive of a Porsche let alone a Cayman and first time with PDK. (Past car history is of Mk1 Golf GTI's, Sciroccos, mini's assorted rubbish then SLK's, TT's and ending up in a mad 470 Hp TTRS).

Part of me thought I'm not going to like this at all and will wait for the new TTRS. But I couldn't have been more wrong, for the first time ever I'm in agreement with the testers platitudes. The car feels more alive, nimble and confidence inspiring than anything I've driven, I know, what did I expect given previous cars.

The only problem is I was set on a manual, and this was fantastic to drive giving you a small sense of reward when you manage a heel and toe nicely. (The auto blip function blew me away as well, beforehand I couldn't see why you'd need it but after not quite getting a few down changes right I wanted it back on again). The clutch is just too stiff for me though, I can manage it fine but a day's driving? I'd be in agony and not looking forward to getting in it again, I am a wimp admittedly, but also broke my ankle fairly badly a few years ago.

Initial thoughts on the PDK were that this is just too slow and numb, there seems to be a gap between requests and engaging the driveline. So the guy from PCE puts it in manual and sports plus. And I am again blown away. Fast driving is amazing, obviously, letting you redline and hold that gear, but the biggest difference and deal breaker for me is it doesn't change down if you just come off the throttle again, keeping the engine braking as a manual. We tried pootling along in second, as if you were approaching a roundabout and trying to time filtering in without dropping to first (as the VAG DSG does) and the PDK just stays in second and lets you pull away again smoothly.

So I'm locking in with yellow rather than cost increase colour to help with the PDK cost, sports suspension as this felt just very slightly better at PCE (probably just because I've read it is so much) bucket seats, GTS interior, PCCB and Nav/bose.

Big thumbs up to the PCE as well, much more pleasant than I expected, everyone there was relaxed, friendly and keen to make sure you were satisfied, without all that Mr. / sir rubbish some companies think passes for customer service.

I'm converted.

Cheers Carbon80, it is Carmine Red. I really like the shiny black wheels as I have had the GTS black exterior pack which is also shiny and together it looks really smart.
Bugger to keep clean though. biglaugh
I have the same arrangement with my Racing Yellow Boxster GTS... almost wish I had gone for PCCBs to keep the dirt under control rolleyes

Lol, that's a very expensive way to keep them clean but must admitt the thought also crossed my mind. However the red brake calipers match up a treat.

On another note, last year I went to Goodwood FoS and Porsche had a great stand there which is where I first came across the Boxster GTS (was a yellow one too) and fell in love with it. Now I have one and will be going back for the moving motor show. Any one else going?

I have the car booked in next week to take a look at wind noise from the drivers door window.
I can't recall hearing this on any test drives I have had but as I rarely have the radio/music on the noise starts at about 50mph, now of course when the roof is down it's not a problem!!! but it sounds like the window is cracked open a bit when the roof is up and I keep pulling on the window up button to close it only to find it is actually closed.
Anyone else notice this?

Hi there, I had a similar problem above 70mph and took the car in. Was helpfully told that the windows had some toe in-out adjustability as well as servo settings to make sure they are fully up (or go back up once you close the door) on my CGTS. After a day in the workshop, the car came back without the noise, so fingers crossed they should sort it for you.
Do let me know if they solve it for you too,
D

Hi All

I am just about to put down a deposit on a new GTS and looking for any advice/guidance here. Am a real petrol head but newbie to Porche. Want something, raw, fun, loud and a little old school. Took out a Cayman S last week and was blown away - just loved it. Since then have been buried in the configurator trying to sort my optimal car. Have opted for MT as I've always loved manual trannies. I did however try PDK in the test drive last week and just loved it. Loved the quick down changes and crackle from the over-run. Still, I think I'd like the manual though for the whole driving experience - just hope the exhaust sound track is as good. Have put quite a few extras on my spec - probably too many and no doubt will effect any resale - although I'm not planning to sell this car.

One major extravagance I've added is the Burmester sound package - I love my music and am a bit of an audio geek. Has anyone an experience of this system?. Would however appreciate and advice/guidance on spec I've settled on below. Thanks

Welcome and congrats.

One thing I would say is be sure about the manual gearbox if it's for road use. I'm traditionally a dyed in the wool manual man, but the stupid ratios on the manual 'box (~84mph in 2nd at redline, 110+ in 3rd) put me off. I've opted for PDK as a result as the ratios are quite a bit shorter (~75mph in 2nd) and more in keeping with a sportscar. A few hours at PEC Silverstone on their road-mimicking track where I never got close to getting out of 3rd gear in the manual confirmed this. The manual box feels great and is a peach to use, but is severely flawed if you live in the real world, like your licence and enjoy using the full reach of the engine. My 2p worth anyway.

Thanks for the response Mario. I had read that previously and does worry me a bit. The car will be mainly on the road so will take this into consideration. Do you think the PCCBs are worth the money?

PCCBs are great if you're only using them on the road and are feeling a bit flush, but for me they're very strong money. If they were only £2.5K I'd probably have specced them but at £5K they were too much. Plus the yellow of the calipers clashed with my chosen colour scheme wink

Things to bear in mind are that they don't add resale value and if you're like me and others, you'll actively avoid them on a used car (I did on my 7GT3) due to replacement cost - although there is another thread running here on an outfit that refurbs pccbs for sensible-ish money. You should get a free PEC half day with your order, maybe ask to try one car with and one car without and see what the difference is for you

Thanks Andy. Was looking at your spec Andy and is sweet. Only problem is if I add PDK and PCCBs to mine (along with the rest of my spec) I'm hitting the £75k mark. Don't want to over-spec but also don't want to regret not putting the right car together. This configurator is taking over my life! Wife and kids haven't seen me in weeks!!
