Plus on a quick very, vey bumpy B road thrash yesterday the X73 suspension was more controlled and less crashy than the 118D M Sport I had as a daily. And as an extra bonus no scraping on any of the speed bumps in the crummy town near where we live! Woo hoo

Interesting comment on the x73. I am still agonising over this! Live in London but am interested in your experience of driving it on crummy roads. Less worried about ride. More worried about scraping the underside. Can you give more colour?

I collected the car from central London and drove it on some short trips around the capital for the weekend we spent down there, but avoided some of the cut throughs I'd normally use due to speed bumps. There are four that I have to negotiate near to home but they are of the low and nicely gentle lead in slope variety. Even so on the worst of these the rubber flap that extends down in front of the front wheels touches. The edge of this is quite a way below the painted lower surface of the front bumper though so not a problem.

Any steep inclined speed bump, of which there seem to be hundreds in London (mainly on residential streets, as I am sure you know better than I) and I'd expect there to be lots of scraping. As very well explained by BishBosh and his experiences.

Is the extra 10mm of clearance going to save those problems though? I doubt it on the worst ones.

Hope that helps.

I will be adding the Keel Strip I have this weekend to try and save the paint when the inevitable happens. (The bumper is only plastic anyway!)

Edit: Re crummy roads, there is a section of B road about 200m long that is on the way to our house, and it's one of those ones that has subsided so much in patches it's almost like tens of pot holes. I was worried about this but it is not a problem at all. It's only speed bumps that cause a problem due to the front over-hang.

You may well have trouble on sloping drives too. My S on PASM (shorter higher nose than GTS) does catch on drives that you wouldn't regard as at all extreme (especially when turning up a drive from a fairly heavily cambered road - but as I say not something you would expect if you hadn't had it before). No problems otherwise for me with speed humps or rough roads in around 5k miles. Some ferries might be an issue too - not grounded anything myself, but been close.

My BGTS has x73 .i live in London Suburbs .
In 5000 miles it hasn't grounded once .
I don't have a problem with humps ( other than one non standard one on a clients private road ) or driveways .
Bumpy urban roads can shake the passenger a bit but it's no worse than my old 997 GT3 .
If you don't mind a firmer ride I would go for it , makes the car "feel "much better .

Thanks guys! Much appreciated. Screw it - x73 it is!

Now I just have to decide on Guards or Carmine Red. A sports car has to be red in my view but it's like being asked which one of your children is your favourite....

I chose guards over carmine (I like them both) because of the price difference but to be fair I am a cheap skate;-))

Regarding the KeelEazy, I applied it to the underside of my Sag's nose last weekend. My view is that it will help with very low speed grounding whilst crawling over ramps. However, it is much thinner than I expected and I suspect that when the high speed groundings come (e.g. in compressions) that it will just gouge through it. I hope to be proven wrong on this. Having some protection is better than none though. The Sag is really low so hopefully the GTS would not suffer as many 'in flight' contacts with the road surface.

The tape itself is easy to cut to shape. The most tricky bit is getting the backing off. It really was necessary to put it in the fridge for a while as advocated by the destructions. Even then you have to 'find' the easiest corner and clamp the glue layer down with your fingernail to stop it peeling straight off with the backing. It recommends to round all corners, which I did.

To get a good bond it was necessary to heat it up with a hairdryer (or heat gun) and press it firmly home. A leather gardening glove was useful here so as not to burn your hand.

Fingers crossed it gives some protection...

Thanks Gary, I might have a go tomorrow.

And if anyone wants any yellow strip let me know, I don't need 10m of it!

I think so. Apparently there's orders being taken until December when I spoke to dealers in July. Some tried to force me into an order by telling me were about to stop soon. I've seen a number of used ones coming to market though which wasn't the case when I was first looking at the beginning of summer. Go to Reading OPC if you can as they seem to know all the details.

Been offered build in September and October as well but they were for specs already locked down.

So there are options to get hold of one. Depends whether you want a bespoke one or not.

Thanks Prestonese. I aren't too fussy on spec just a few 'must haves'. Before I ring around a few dealers tomorrow an incorrect in thinking discounts are minimal or none?

Good advice to call Reading, will be interesting to hear what they advise.

My OPC laughed at the discount request, but some seemed to have obtained a small one reading through this thread. All I managed in the end was 'free' Gap for 3 years and two car covers after taking Porsche finance.

Let us know how you get on?

X73 drives and looks great. I have it on my BGTS in Guernsey where roads are challenging in places and all is good to date re no groundings. More importantly it drives fantastically! Good choice clap

I tried to PM you. Not sure if it got through.

Generally discounts are rare. Easier if you get finance from them. Like with all cars, I think the general rule is to find a franchise centre up north.

Good luck!

Sag is in for a service plus clutch slave cylinder seal. Should have it back midweek. I'll see if I can get a camera under there then. I think having a ramp would make marking for cutting and fitting much easier!

Thanks mate but I did't get a PM.

I've sent by 2 nearest dealerships (Newcastle and Leeds) my configuration code so I'll see what comes back and I've asked for finance figures. If this is possible I'll be back to ask questions about my spec i.e is PTV worth it as I've omitted it from my configuration?

Ordered a new Boxster GTS for November build delivery all being well for Christmas 2015, not a penny off the price their last F6 allocation before 981.2 arrives in March 2016. They have a few Normal Boxster S in the system along with stock S cars at the dealership which they were more than happy to do a deal on but no go on the last GTS cars.

Anyway spec is as follows

Racing Yellow paintwork
Black hood
Black leather interior with alcantara
Roll over bars in Yellow
Bi-Xenon- headlights inc. Porsche System Plus (PDLS+) with dynamic high beam
Park assist front & rear
Electric folding door mirrors
Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) incl. mechanically locking rear differential
PDK
Sport Chassis 20 mm lower
20-inch Sport Techno Wheels
Wheels painted partially black
Seat heating
Two- Zone climate control
Smoking package
Light design package
Racing Yellow sport chrono stopwatch instrument dial
Interior painted package in Racing Yellow
Sport seats 2 way plus
Racing Yellow instrument dials
Racing Yellow seat belts
Centre console trim painted Racing Yellow
Storage compartment lid in Alcantara with Porsche crest
Sound package plus
Mobile phone prep
Porsche Communication management (PCM) including navigation module

That just about sums it up,now the long wait begins.
