So I have to have my spec locked by next week. I think I'm reasonably happy with the spec.

I'm coming from a 991 GT3 so hoping the GTS will be nearly as much fun but at more realistic speeds. It will be mainly be used for weekend blasts and euro road trips.

Anything that I have missed out or could be left off the list?
Nice spec!

Good to see it in manual! Mine is pretty identical. Please be aware that you will develop a very strong left thigh muscle driving it.

I also noticed you have a leather wheel. I have this too and sort of wish I had the standard material. I think on balance the alcantara looks better as well.
Yeah i think the GTS suits a manual plus it's cheaper so a no brainier really. The long gear ratios everyone complains about will mean I'll hardly ever have to change gear anyway wink

I'd go with buckets rather than 18-way seats: the 981 buckets are reeeeeeally comfy, much better than the fancy carrera GT buckets I had in my 997 GT3 which annoyed me after 2 hours as they were so narrow. They also look brilliant and with the GTS interior really make the car look high end
I'd have the 981 buckets any day of the week, they look amazing and as long as they are at least as comfy as the 991 GT3 buckets would be great. Only thing is they aren't on the configurator? Only option is standard 2 way sport seats plus or the 18 way. Any Ida's how you can get the 981 seats?

Best to have a word with your dealer - maybe they're not available any more which would be a real shame. Option on my order for them was P03 (P zero three) if it's any help.

The long gearing isn't really an issue unless you are always at the track. The car has sufficent torque and power to be driven in different ways.

I posted a pic of mine up in this forum. It's the Guards Red with satin wheels. The satin looks excellent so you have made a good choice! :-)

Sapphire blue. THE only colour for (any) GTS smile

This option disappeared sometime in the last week. Asked my dealer about it in case anything else is being removed, but not heard back yet

I've noticed that as well, that said it seems to be the same across the model range as you can no long spec buckets or some of the wheels for the 991.2.

To be honest I've never noticed the option for 981 seats available on the CGTS and I've been playing around with the configurator for the last few months? Will email my dealer and see what they are saying but I get the feeling the answer is if it's not on the configurator then it can't be had. Same went for colour to sample and that's a no go. Bit disappointing really.

Anyone got any must haves and must have not's for the CGTS while I'm specing mine?

Spoke to dealer and buckets are a definite no go. I'll be manual in mine and can't justify PCCB's unfortunately. Will have sports chassis, PTV and ACC though.

I picked up a 2014 GTS 6 weeks ago, manual/ceramics/ptv/goodyears (these details might be relevant). I've noticed a burning smell when I get out of the car after a journey, for example an 8 mile round trip at low speed to pick up one of my children, or a 60 minute drive along A roads and dual carriage ways. Disappears quickly but I do find it a bit alarming, is this normal ?

My first Porsche since a 968 CS 20 years ago so I'm not close to the latest cars, appreciate any advice

Thanks

Normal if a smell like burning rubber towards the rear of the car. I panicked was concerned a few years a back when I got my first Cayman and put up a similar post.

It's normal - and on mine has gone away after a few thousand miles.

The smell is normal, and two years on both of mine have kept it!

The only thing I can say is make sure you're happy with the manual 'box. I'm a dyed in the wool manual man: loved it on my 996 C4S, loved it on my F355, loved it on my 550, loved it on my 997 GT3, love it on my 993, love it (in sequential form) on my Caterham but....

HATED (well, was very disappointed by) it on the 981. If you're used to the nicely short and stacked ratios on a 991 GT3 and like to rev a car out on the road to enjoy it's engine without achieving silly speeds, 84 mph in 2nd and 115mph in 3rd at redline may start to grate quickly (like did for me after 1 hour at PEC Silverstone). The ratios for the PDK are about 13% or so shorter and it's very noticeable more fun for me I have found.

That said, if it's a track car, no worries and fill your boots with the manual smile

You just made me feel so much better Mario. I have been having that gearbox dilemma in my head since ordering. Even after PEC day, I have still been sat thinking about it. I also love a manual, but the gearing was an issue on the tight bends.

Your description makes total sense.

My only concern is coming from PDK-S the PDK box might seem a bit on the slow side. I do like a manual box and feel it's more involving in this type of car although I do have some concerns about the gear ratio lengths. The car will be a weekend car, euro road trips with the odd occasional track day. I'm still thinking I'm more inclined towards the manual.

A PDK will still blitz an equivalent manual Porsche any day of the week. The manual is for driver involvement, not for speed. The stuff about gear ratios on the manual is in my experience complete twaddle. Brilliant real-world performance.

Let's face it, by modern standards no Boxster/Cayman is ever going to be "fast". Simply not enough engine.

I can only say that you should try both. PDK in my BGTS is plenty fast in Sport+. PDK-S may be faster and the ratios even better, but I don't hanker after faster changes when I'm on track, they feel pretty lightning quick already.

My reasons for buying the BGTS were similar to yours: mainly a euro road trip car (4K out of 5K miles we've done since factory collection this year have been on euro road trips) with a 2-3 track days a year thrown in. If I had no other fun car, I would have gone manual despite the ratios, but having a 993 and Caterham in manual form, the PDK just works better for me for what I use it for. Mooching around London in the Boxster rather than family wagon to cheer myself up, PDK in Sport auto = great. Flogging it up/down the Stelvio and Fluela passes on the way to Davos earlier this year, PDK in Sport+ manual = great. Trying to navigate ridiculously layed out and narrow old town streets while dodging crap drivers in Spain a few weeks ago, PDK in normal auto = lifesaver hehe

That said, for some people only a manual will do smile

So long as you're not fussed about using the full reach of the engine on the road and/or are happy to become plod-bait (at least in the populated parts of the UK)

C'mon, don't do the car a disservice - <5s to 60mph is a quick car even by modern standards, it's just not lunatic quick. Plus, so many people are now used to instant torque turbo engines that if it doesn't go like a stabbed rat from 2K rpm they don't think it's a quick car.
