Bad news with regard to oil consumption.

I did a top up of 0.5 l at 2300 miles and after 650 miles minimum oil level reached warning, again.

It means my engine uses 1 l per 1300 miles, well at least during its first 3000 miles. It's a pdk car, I use it mainly during week ends, long distances, i.e. no chance to have water mixed to the oil.

Not really happy about that.

What's your oil consumption?
Mine’s used none in 2500 miles. oil changed at 1000 miles, run in very carefully. Gauge still reads full.
Maybe worth getting it checked?

Yes, it's almost 1 year old and I was planning the first service anyway in January.

It was 4.5 C when I was filling tyres at 2.3 bar. Same outside temp during my trip, with max pressure registered of 2.5 bar (car not really pushed hard).
Sure with 20 C outside pressure would go up to 2.6?
Yes, you're right, having filled to 2.3 at 4 degs or so I suspect it would have gone up to at least 2.6 if the outside temp has miraculously jumped to 20 degs on your drive, prob much more actually. This ties in with my post from the other day somewhat: if it's colder (like 4 degs or so today) and staying that way for your drive, I think you have to *at least* fill it to the same pressure as you would at 20 degs, if not a bit more as the air in your tyres will have a harder time getting warm and raising their pressure to the 2.6 or so you're aiming at. The opposite likely being true if it's an extra hot day - I'd start with a bit less than 2.3 in (certainly no more than 2.3) as the tyres will heat up easier makign it easier for the pressure to rise in them

Hello!

Collected my new to me Cayman GTS today (I'm based in Dubai). Lovely motor! Having test driven a number of 911's, i decided the CGTS made more sense, plus I just couldn't find the right 911 colour combo I wanted here (they love a red interior/white exterior combo).

Half decent spec:

PDK
Carmine Red
GTS Carmine interior
Turbo wheels (jury is out on those, might swap to something darker)
Keyless entry
Bose
Painted key (kinda pointless when its has keyless entry)
PCM
Telephone module
Light Design Package
Folding mirrors
PDLS+
Power steering+
Dimming mirrors
Park Assist (with camera)

Few crappy phone pics:

(note my neighbours BGTS!)

I don't understand the reason behind. Basically mine uses 4 times the oil used by yours.

Not sure if it's linked to the fact that I use the car only on weekends, average sporty drive, but very rarely higher than 6000 rpm.
hmmmm odd, I constantly hunt the redline. It is a daily but always warmed up and down etc... and the distance I do per day is 12 miles. normally put about 70miles on it a week on average and that includes weekend hoons. The rest is done by the shopping trolley.

~ 5,000 miles - 250ml, but then I ignored the running in guidance...
why did you do that? assume you don't plan to keep the car!

Hi
If you're going for the front grill set, may I advise getting the rear intake grills as well. They look the part &, possibly more importantly, add a sense of balance to the car. You won't be disappointed.
Hi on My GTS there are no gaps to fit the rear grills presume GTS has different rear diffuser than normal S version.

Hi
From memory, not always a good idea, I think you're right: rear intake apertures are different. But all is not lost, as if they haven't made a set for the CS you may get a set for free if you allow Zunsport to use your car as a template. Try them.

Basically at least other 5 customers have denied this such oil consumption on their CGTS.

Am I very unlucky? I need to investigate with my OPC. But to be fair, they've always told me till 1 liter every 1000 miles is normal.

But to be fair, they have always been talking BS. As others have said, using a BIT of oil in the first few thousand miles until the engine has bedded in doesn't seem unusual but the engine doesn't otherwise normally use much oil. They are just trying to fob you off if they are saying 1l per 1000 is "normal"

Agree - although the engine is different on the 981, last time I had that line from a OPC it was on my gen 1, and that ended up being bore scoring! Don't think the DFI suffers from that does it?

They've told me that even before buying the car, when I was asking about oil consumption and why they give a bottle of oil for each car.

After our previous 997/2 Carrera S which drank Mobil 1 as if it was going out of fashion I've got in the habit of frequently checking the oil level! I'm pleased that our BGTS PDK has used approx 1 litre over 5,200 miles.

Hi All, not checked in for a while so lots to catch up on!

Had a call on Friday confirming that my car has now been built and should arrive in the next couple of weeks.

I saw a very smart CGTS in Sapphire Blue driving through Guildford yesterday lunchtime which looked and sounded great. Really looking forward to getting mine now and trying to contain my excitement…..

I’m sure I read earlier about some people tracking their cars during the journey and delivery to Reading for inspection before going on to the local dealer. Anyone know how I can do that and does two weeks sound about right?

Still a few decisions about paint film and insurance so thanks again for the various comments on this forum. I had forgotten about the Zunsport grills but also need to look into that if no warranty issues.

Finally (for now…), is Photobucket the best option for posting photos? I’m not great with technology and have not tried adding photos yet but would like to give it go when I take the car somewhere interesting!

Mine has the Porsche VTS system, which was dealer fitted at a cost of £1200.00 + 1 Years Sub (£215.00 ~). I know mine was a requirement by the insurance due to its value (75k + )
Thanks, that sounds about the same as my dealer mentioned but I think I have found an insurance option that will not require any additional security so fingers crossed….

On the contrary, my break in method seems to have resulted in a better bedded in engine that uses less oil than most on here...

I didn't abuse it, just drove it more in keeping with its intended use once the engine was up to temperature.

I've also got it for piece of mind as well, as I did find a cheaper insurance without the requirement for it but id rather pay a bit more for a better service should the worst happen.
