Yes it is, look at the specs. I've also driven both specifically looking at what speed they redlined, there is a fairly significant differencethe gearing isn't any better with the pdk by the way.

Spent a morning in it at PEC Silverstone and never got to use 3rd gear for more than 3 secs at a time when revving it out, which is criminal considering the track there is supposed to mimic a country hoon. It's a peach of an engine and I found it immensely frustrating that the gearing was so long blunting performance and reducing number of gearchanges you could make while using it's full reach - all just to give it a better emissions figure. 84 mph in second gear and 110mph+ in 3rd is simply too long for me. 2nd with PDK takes you ~75mph and 3rd to <100mph - you get slightly better straight line performance (not the be all and end all, but a nice bonus) and you get to use more of the gears more of the time with less risk to your licence
Totally take your point, but I found driving a PDK I was always driving too fast without thinking about it much.It would be nice if they "did a Lotus" and offered another box with alternative ratios though.
Even the 987 is a bit long-geared.

See that's what happens. With pdk there is nothing better to do at speed than analyse spec sheets and watch the speedo and rev counter ... meanwhile the rest of us are otherwise engaged in rev matching and stirring a stick around
Or it could be that I made my initial observation during the age it to get the extra 10mph to ~84 out of the manual car in 2nd while I wasn't having to change to 3rd and had nothing to do Look, I'm not saying the manual box is not a good choice for many people, especially those who are going to track the car and those, at the other end of the scale, for whom the last 500-1000rpm is not especially relevant as they don't like to drive the car like they stole it. And it *is always* fun stirring a peachy manual 'box - it will always give to you in a way that PDK cannot. But all that said, let's not pretend for one moment that the ratios are sensible or remotely optimal for road use. They are an exercise in
a) emissions reduction
and
b) performance limitation
....both for marketing reasons. I have a Caterham 620R and a 993 (in addition to my BGTS), both of which have manual boxes with great ratios. I'm happy to save my manual kicks for those cars and enjoy the paddleshift experience on the BGTS as opposed to a manual option that would frustrate me immensely, as it did on my 7.1 GT3 which achieved similar in gear speeds. And if a GT3 can't impress me with those ratios for road use, let's be honest, a Cayster GTS certainly isn't going to!

I am having trouble getting a build date here in Australia. Are others having a similar issue in the UK?
FYI - UK - Placed initial order end of September 2015, got confirmation of an early March 2016 build date at the end of November 2015.BTW - soon as the 718 was announced officially, locking my build down seemed to become "urgent". Not sure if that was co-incidental or not.

I placed a deposit and signed a contract 2.5 weeks ago and the dealer can't give me a build date. I find this strange for a car still in production. How long do you normally have to wait for confirmation?
No idea on the "typical" time. Sales rep told me in September that it would be towards the end of this year due to that being when they find out their targets for next year, and allocations for Q1.As I said, I ordered end of September, got notified of the build date 2 months later at the end of November.
For my 981 Boxster, I ordered end of February, got notified of the build date 2 months later at the end of April. But note that this was right at the start of the 981 life cycle back in 2012.
I would expect at least a ball park estimate of delivery though, you need to have realistic expectations of how long you are going to have to wait (will be nearly 6 months for me). The 718 might be complicating matters also, in that there is no official word yet on when they will start production, or if the 981 GTS will continue to be offered along side it for a while. All we know is that the models will be "introduced throughout 2016". Geneva (or just before it), should clear that up. I'd set your own expectations to not find out until as late as Feb next year, and be pleasantly surprised if you find out earlier.

I think it really varies - my GTS took just 10 weeks from £3k deposit on the day I went to the showroom to keys in my hand. Reading did a champion job to be fair. Would struggle alot to wait 8-12months.
I missed the last allocation at Sheffield 1st week July, now it's an 8 month wait. Not too far away now, and wouldn't drive it in bad weather anyway. I know the GTS was not a limited run, but it certainly felt that way.Boggle73 said:

Does anybody know when they are stopping making the CGTS?

My allocation was confirmed today, so all up it took 3.5 weeks from ordering. March build, May delivery here in Australia.

Nobody knows for definite when the switch will happen, but yours has to be one of the last in my opinion. I was talking to OPC yesterday. Their words were you can still place an order today for a standard Boxster or Cayman and you will have it Q1. You can put a deposit on a CGTS or BGTS, but allocation is not guaranteed. No more deposits for GT4 or Spyder.Does anybody know when they are stopping making the CGTS?
