I don't disagree with you on X73 vs PASM, it is all a personal choice. But as for the looks, why do you think it rides too high on PASM? Been to see mine and I can't see why it rides too high, it's like a go kart compared to last car.

Trying to make sense of fashion (whether it be male or female) is a fruitless task. But it's a bit of a rum deal when F1 cars are forced to go to low profile tyres for no other reason than the fashion for cotton reel wheels on road cars. SC50 said:

It's making tyre development more relevant to road cars. There have never been road cars with similar tyre construction to F1 so maybe it's time for a change. It looks weird and obscures vision but I'm sure they'll cope and we'll get used to it.

Not really convinced. It's not just F1 - practically all single seater formula from karts upwards use high profile tyres. If there really was a benefit (for racing) It looks weird and obscures vision but I'm sure they'll cope and we'll get used to it.
in going low profile they would have by now. It is being pushed forward for purely marketing reasons to establish a (totally bogus) link between the tyres used on F1 cars with the same manufacturers road tyres. A slick tyre designed for 4 or 5 g cornering and braking is never going to bear any real resemblance to a road tyre.
Looks weird - like I say, just a fashion thing - would anyone really argue that an E-Type or Ferrari Dino were anything but gorgeous, despite their high profile tyres and massive wheelarch clearance.

Completely agree, the link from F1 tech to road cars is slim to say the least.
If you want to see a much clearer one start taking a look at the WEC. Power trains, turbo, hybrid tech all coming out of there in recent years for those manufacturers using that race series. The Audi TSFI engines a direct descendant of the R8 power plant before they went oil burner a prime example.
If you're talking tyres take a look at the new Michelin slick wets their now using! Pure unadulterated witchcraft. However, that base compound is bound for a tyre near you in some format very soon I'd suspect.

Hi
It took me 2 weeks to read this thread! Awesome.
Regular on many forums, but never on PH before.
Has a cayman S about 5 years ago, missed it alot.
My CGTS is ordered, managed to get a cancelled showroom order late Jan. Changed to my spec with 4 days remaining. PHEW!
Should hit the dealer in April. Counting the days......
Would someone who's already got their cayman mind measuring the internal size of the little storage space with sliding lid behind the drivers shoulder. Thanks.
Also, in my old cayman, i could store a few bits/pies under the plastic cover under the bonnet with the brake fluid and tyre compressor. Is there still space under there? Any photos?
Thanks
rob

The openings for the cubby holes are about 11cm wide and 23 cm long. I only measured the drivers side which is 19cm deep The cubby hole (driver's side) is about 5cm longer and 2 cm wider than the opening. Passenger side is similar from memory. Useful for high viz jackets, mini tool kit, bulbs, torch etc. Bit difficult to see inside though so not somewhere you'd probably keep something you wanted to access a lot. Can't recall any space by the compressor - pretty tight under there. It took me 2 weeks to read this thread! Awesome.
