I do like this one, it has a manual box, the interior i want, Ok a few trims are not carbon, but can get them dipped most likely, the suspension i want. Would prefer the wheels to be in platinum, would Porsche be able to get this done?

Quite tempted by it.

No mention of PCM or what stereo it has. The standard stereo is abysmal, first enquiry would be does it have CDR+?

What does PCM include? I can always have the Audio upgraded professionally. What is CDR+?

I have asked them for the full spec of the car. Thanks for you help.

PCM = Porsche Communication Management (sat nav to you and me)
there are four different stereo options.
1. Standard = awful, almost nobody gets this as its truly terrible and the next one up isn't very expensive.
2. CDR+ more speakers and an amplifier, cheap upgrade that you'd be crazy to leave out
3. Bose even more speakers, a more powerful amplifier and a subwoofer. Popular but not brilliant.
4. Burmester. More speakers again (12!) Digital Signal Processing and an even more powerful amplifier and more powerful subwoofer. Great but very expensive so not very common.

Hi all,

I've been following this thread with interest for quite while and am pretty much decided on taking the plunge to move from my existing 987.2 Cayman S to a GTS after 4 lovely years together biggrin

I'd be very grateful to get any of your (more experienced than mine) views on the following car. I went to see it yesterday but I'm not sure whether it's overpriced based on some of the OPC cars around. I'm after Rhodium silver with satin alloys, so it importantly ticks that box though.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

The advert is a copy and paste from when this private seller bought it from trade last year (so ignore the trade / px part) and mileage is now 8.5k.

Thanks in advance!

Sound Package Plus is an upgraded audio system which is cheaper than Bose. An upgraded sound system was a prerequisite if you ordered the Sat Nav. Re PSE it does divide opinion - remember that even in the "off" position it is louder than the standard system and some complain about a drone at cruising speeds (more of an issue with a manual which is lower geared in 6th than PDK is in 7th) .
Ah ok thanks. How does it sound, above someone mentioned Bose was not very good? Im guessing better audio can be fitted later.

The Cayman S i have seen doesnt mention anything about having a sports exhaust but has the exhaust button on the center console (guessing for flaps), so would that be a PSE?

I really dislike drone, will have to listen to both then i think, the misses would get a headache on a long trip if it did drone.
I have PSE with a manual on a Boxster. Never had any issues with a drone, nor has my wife, even on long m'way trips.

In my experience, tyre noise is a far bigger issue than any drone on m'ways - the tyres seem very sensitive to the type of surface.

Also have Bose, not convinced by it. Needs to be turned up a bit to perform, it seems, which can be a problem, certainly with roof down.

PCM Navigation would be a must for me, if not for resale. It can be added by the dealer, although it isnt cheap.

it is a nice car, with most, if not all, the essential options. The only thing I would say is that the interior is a little drab, but I guess thats personal preference. The car has power steering plus, so I would definitely drive it, and then drive another with normal steering to see the difference, as that might be an issue for some people. Price seems ok, especially if you can haggle a little as well!

A bit of trivial information that might help somebody else out, I have partially black painted techno wheels on mine and got my first stone chip on a spoke. The dealer couldn't tell me what the colour code is, so I took the punt and bought the non-metallic standard black touch up bottle from them and the colour was perfect.

So if anybody needs to pencil touch their black (not satin) wheels, the part number you need is 91109593221041.

Also for those that have entry & drive, I bought a painted starter switch key plug from the dealer out of the tequipment catalogue and it looks great. Well worth getting.

Im not going to think about re-sale when buying a car, I'm just going to think what do i want or need, what car is for me, not the next person. I think too many people worry about this. Mostly its weekend blasts. Audio is one, but an after market professional install will probably be better than bose.

Rather like the idea of entry and drive, but having a dummy key rather than the more usual push button strikes me as a bit Heath Robinson.

Thanks - I agree interior could be a little nice, but I guess you can't have everything. Just doing some Googling around PSP as had never heard of that before - seems it polarises opinion. Anyone know if dealer's can disable it?

PH'ers love to hate Power Steering Plus. I had it on my Cayman S and I'd have it again. I live in central London and appreciated the lighter steering in traffic. There is no reward to be had from heavy steering commuting in traffic below 30mph. I occasionally had loaner Caymans or Boxsters when mine was in the workshop and you can defo notice the difference.

It's just software, there are no hardware changes to the normal system. It only makes a difference below 30mph, above 30mph its exactly the same as normal steering. It can be disabled by pressing the Sport button (but this makes PDK go ballistic so not ideal in traffic)

Not tried PSP on a 981 but I did on the 718 and I quite liked it. Not a "must have" option for me - but no reason to avoid it.

I'm sure I personally wouldn't mind having it if it was already on the car or free, but I'd never pay money for it.

' "My Cayster power steering is too heavy" said no one ever' springs to mind frankly.

Really, there is no extra effort required to turn the key as opposed to push a button.

Also I can't see the need for PSP. The steering is light as it is.

I'd rather have a slot to put my key to be honest. You just end up wondering where to put your keys.

No it's not like that - you keep your key in your pocket and you turn this extra "dummy" key which is permanently in the dash. That's why I regard it as a bit Heath Robinson.
