So then guys today I drove a Boxster GTS Manual and Cayman GTS PDK........To me they felt like two different cars.

The Boxster was on X73 suspension and although firmer than PASM it was ok, and it makes the car look great. The gearing, yes its geared long, but the box felt great, and the cheeky down shifts / rev matching although cheating they where fun. Brakes felt so good, naturally left foot braked before a corner and the feel was so good. The exhaust note through a tunnel was great. Wind buffeting in the cock pit was very little, I was surprised. Over all the car had me smiling, and in my opinion this is what you want a car to do.

The Cayman once in felt good. I have to say the PDK is so good, the functionality in auto mode was very good, and in manual it was just like being on my simulator at home, quick shifts, and left foot braking like I was playing a game. The engine sounded brilliant! There was drone at 2000 rpm when under load, it was quite bad. But when I got out of the car wasn't grinning like I was in the Boxster, it was more a serious drive and less fun.

The verdict, if you just want to work on your lap times or hit every apex harder than before get a Cayman, if you want fun get the Boxster..........I know what I did this time smile
Glad you enjoyed both smile Ref your post after the one I've quoted, between the extra 10bhp and the ~10% shorter PDK gearing the Cayman had, can well imagine it feeling like there were 35+ extra ponies and more mid range! V glad you concentrated on the smiles given rather than absolute speed smile and also that you got on with the manual gearing, big part of me wishes I cluel have done but hey ho! if someone develops a reliable shorter final drive that can be fitted, that'll be the gearbox of choice no questions!

Cheers mate. I cant wait to get driving it. I missed 5 Cayman GTS's last week. even poorly spec'd ones sold for advertised price, and there isn't a great choice of Boxster GTS's either so the demand seems to be there so i didn't want to miss this one either. Im glad i got to drive both before deciding though. How many left shows only 75 manual boxster GTS's registered in the UK, is that correct, seems a low number.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for track insurance for my CGTS? Happy to look at both one off cover and for the year. Will be tracked solely in the UK - for the next 12 months at least

[quote=NBTBRV8]Here are some daylight photos of the GT4 mesh.

I am not overly happy with how I mounted the side ones, I think I would like to look in to replacing the GTS black side openings with GT4, but all this start to get really expensive. However I prefer the look of the GT4 mesh over the Zunsport mesh, but you are paying a premium and they most certainly aren't plug and play.

NBTBRV8 I think your GT4 grills look great. I do like my Zunsport ones but the GT4 mesh is way better looking and worth the cash and faff in my opinion

Try Manning UK, as they are highly rated.

I tend to drive my Pdk equipped car in manual for the majority of the time to make it as interactive as possible and giving me control. I'm now 3,300 miles into ownership and have found for 90% of the time the car changes up automatically even in manual mode but every now and then it catches me out by not changing up and instead it clumsily bounces off the limiter.

Not having it change up at all without me up shifting would be my preference every time, but as I'm expecting it to up shift, it catches me out every now and then.

Does anyone know why this is? Is it something to do with kickdown? i.e. When kickdown is activated in manual mode it doesn't automatically change up but in all other instances it does....

If the gear stick is over to left, in European cars (i.e. uk) it will 100% not change up when in manual mode. Completely 12K miles in mine and always drove the in manual and a few times bounced on the limiter when chasing supercars for fun
if you car is doing this you have an issue.

Lockton will do it. Unlimited track days, but you'll likely have to have an active tracker

I thought that the kickdown switch effectively overrode manual mode. The manual says that kickdown operates in manual mode and that gearchanges occur at the highest engine speeds. That would imply that if kickdown is activated it would change up. I can't say for sure myself as I avoid kickdown - having invoked it by accident on a couple of occasions.

I agree with bcr5784. As it does have two distinctive modes normal and kickdown. You should be able to feel the point the kickdown switch is activated.

Hi Andy,

I can absolutely feel the switch under the throttle pedal that all auto's have and I do purposely use kickdown frequently as I like to drive shall we say enthusiastically. biggrin

So are we saying that the reason I am finding that 90% of the time my car changes up automatically, even in manual, it's because 90% of the time I am using kickdown and it's only when I don't use kickdown that it bounces into the limiter and I have full control in manual? That would make perfect sense and I just need to be switched onto this distinct difference in future to avoid me clumsily bouncing into the rev limiter.

I've just read the manual and kickdown does override the normal manual operation of not changing up. So keeping your foot pinned to the floor will force the gearbox to change up, even in manual mode.

Just tried manual mode from standstill, and it will hit the limiter without changing gear. Kick down did override the manual mode.
Never been near limiter before today, that engine noise up the top end is unbelievable. smilesmile

LOL!! Thank you for the experiment and confirmation BogglemanGTS. The engine does sound incredible as you close in on the red line and if you can find a tunnel to do that in then WOW the sound is immense.

Must remember to not hit the kickdown switch if I want to retain complete gear shift control! evil

Good god man that's criminal! How long have you owned the car?! You'd better have just picked it up this morning or only just ticked over 1K miles!
