The pictures look incredible Boggleman! I am currently in the process of organising our honeymoon for next June in our CGTS and we're going to do a two week epic European road trip. Plan is to take the ferry over to Santander, then onto San Sebastian, Pamplona, Barcelona, Greolieres, Lake Como, Davos Switzerland, Baden-Baden and finally Ypres. Should be epic and we're spending a couple of days in Davos so we can drive the Furka, Grimsel and San Bernardino Passes.
Looking at your photos from Davos, we are weirdly looking to book the same Sunstar Parkhotel so I'd be interested to hear how you got on with the hotel (in particular if the parking is ok) and what roads you took your lovely BGTS on whilst there.
We are in Bellagio Lake Como now, lovely. Sounds like a fantastic honeymoon, I will put some ideas down in writing when we stop again. Portofino tomorrow and the weather looks poor. I will try and keep roughly to the distances I have used. Gives plenty of time for coffe and photos, and no driving after dark (not nice on the passes). I can also stick a few hotels in too, just my views anyway.Looking at your photos from Davos, we are weirdly looking to book the same Sunstar Parkhotel so I'd be interested to hear how you got on with the hotel (in particular if the parking is ok) and what roads you took your lovely BGTS on whilst there.

Weather was lovely for September in Como.

Fantastic Boggleman - thank you, the weather and pics look superb. Any hints and tips along with decent hotels where you are happy with the parking for your pride and joy would be much appreciated. My car has the X73 suspension so steep ramps in and out are a bit of a no, noJay.

I basically did an Alps tour like this 2 years in a row: once in the 993 Cab in 2014 then again when we collected the BGTS from the factory last summer....fab times. If anyone reading this hasn't done one, get it on your bucket list. Davos is brill as a base for a day or so as you can do the Reschen, Fluela and Stelvio passes from there essentially in one big loop.

Hi, Mario149 - can you reciommend places to stay in that region please? Cheers!!Meierhof was also good, less posh but more "local" and in town so stuff is walkable (InterC has a shuttle to take you the 1km or so from memory). Both times we booked using the Hotels.com app on my phone and I think both times we got the stay very cheap or free as we'd collected 10 nights previously and "redeemed" our "free" night.
Don't forget to get a travel pass thing from whatever you stay in when you arrive, it covers cable cars and busses etc so you can explore Davos and the valley for free. We've not manged to take advantage of it yet as it's always been a flying visit so far.

We stayed in Davos both times while passing through that area, the first was in Hotel Meierhof and the second was in the Intercontinental. The latter was particularly nice, indoor/outdoor (you swim through a "door") jacuzzi pool type set up. Room was very plush, free parking if you get there early enough to park in the outdoor car park (we "lost" our space when we nipped into town, but kicked up a big fuss when they tried to charge us ~£20 for the indoor one the next day and got it FOC in the end), great views of the town and valley from the bar/restaurant at the top of the hotel, but I wouldn't eat in the hotel again, overpriced for what it was.

Many thanks for your detailed reply and advice Mario, much appreciated. Certainly a destination we are planning with our own BGTS in the next year or twoMeierhof was also good, less posh but more "local" and in town so stuff is walkable (InterC has a shuttle to take you the 1km or so from memory). Actually, just while we're on the subject, my favourite of the passes in that area is Fluelapass. It's not as extreme as Stelvio with its switchbacks, but it seems to carry less traffic and is more flowing allowing you to carry more speed, certainly a better bit of road for the 993 from memory as for Stelvio you need first gear available which is not really doable with a manual. However that is obv where PDK comes into its own

Quick question, my Cayman GTS is two years old in a week or so and due its first service. Do I have to go to Porsche for the warranty etc or can I go to a specialist?
In theory you can go anywhere so long as the service is done correctly to the Porsche standards, it won't affect manufacturer warranty. If you're on an extended warranty, that's different as it's an insurance product so they can stipulate whatever servicing conditions they want I believe.I went to Porsche, the car is with them now being serviced. I had some oil knocking around at home and after politely asking if it was ok for me to supply that I got offered enough of a discount to not need any Vaseline when my trousers will be pulled down. Worth it for the stamp I reckon as it's only every two years it's not too bad... PM me if you want details on the cost.

Why would you go to a specialist rather than a Porsche dealer with an almost new car?? Without a "proper" OEM service history the residual value of your car will plummet. Not a wise choice in my view.dreamcar said:

It was more for convenience than cost to be honest, I have a great indy I use for everything. Not worried about residuals at all...
Must admit I'd stick to an OPC - latest software / updates etc., I drive 60 miles to my OPC, only because I was badly let down by my local OPC, and vowed never to darken their door again. It seems to be increasingly difficult these days to find anyone who gives decent, caring customer service once they've got your money, not just in cars, so I can understand you using an independent if you've found a good one!

Thats fair enough. Chiswick is my closest but they offered to change my brakes once saying they were completely worn when I took a car in I had just bought for some tires...Even though it had just had new brakes and a kosher PPI showing so...Charlatans...I have a place in Kent too so I will use Tonbridge then...Had a decent experience with them when I bought a GT3
If you are in the South East Mid Sussex in Burgess Hill have an excellent reputation, I know sever people that use them, all very happy. It was a toss up between them or Swindon, about the same distance from me in Southampton, but bought my previous car, a used 997/2 from Swindon and they treated me very well and have continued to do so.dreamcar said:

Not convinced about that. I frankly doubt that a Porsche dealer buying the car would care so long as the car had be serviced by the book, and a private buyer - who presumably is a more skeptical of the value of an OPC - might well take the view that an Indy could do as good a job as an OPC.Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
