Well the salesman is talking garbage. I've driven a Cayman GTS at PEC and they had at least three with different specs. I doubt yours is ex-PEC as it's highly specced and hasn't had the alcantara wheel swapped for a leather one from new.
maybe i misunderstood what the salesman was saying - i was watching the video of the car he sent when he was talking but i thought that's what he said. hopefully your hunch re spec vs track suitability is right. have to say the interior looked immaculate to my eyes which should add weight to what you're saying.

thanks! really looking forward to picking the car up smile

I spotted the Zunsport grilles. In theory you need a full set. smile However, I suspect they make the oil temp higher via reduced airflow to the front radiators. I'm considering taking mine off but I'll monitor things some more.
They are taking them off prior to handover as apparently they aren't allowed to sell a car that has been modified in any way. and if ever there was a problem that could be in any way related to the grilles (overheating etc) then the warranty would be invalidated.

i'm with you guys on this though and value the protection the grills offer. the GT4 and the Spyder have them as standard and i think it's an obvious design issue that the standard cars don't.

Let them take them off and then put them back. OPC are aware of mine and they have no effect on my warranty........

They're made in the UK, somewhere near Staffordshire if I recall.

Next day delivery so easy enough to get hold of.

If they are removing the grills then they will likely also be swapping over the plastic grill surrounds as the clips for the Zunsport grills bite into them (I was told by OPC Reading that they price these replacements in when working out their costs). See if you can get them to throw those bits into the boot as well or even better, get the parts/labour cost knocked off.

hmmm, i'm going through some of the paper work and have seen that the car i bought is showing Porsche Centre Silverstone as the 1st owner.

having spoken to them (PCS) just now they said it was most likely used as a demo car at the time... which is the opposite of what i was told by my OPC before buying.

if that's the case then it's very disappointing that i was not told the truth to start with. i'm in 2 minds now because half of me is saying that i should send the car back and get a full refund. but i've really fallen for the car and would hate to have to part with it.

should i be worried that the car was a demo? obviously it would have been thrashed from day one so what effect would that have on the engine?

they said that if it was registered to PCS then it would not have been used as an experience (track) car as they are 2 different things. but i don't know what to believe any more.

should i make a complaint and is it likely to get me anywhere?

Sounds like it was an ex-demo car not a PEC car. The OPC lied to you about it being ex-demo and alos lied about PEC cars being sold used.

I would return the car and spend my money elsewhere because they would have soured the whole ownership experience for me. I absolutely HATE that kind of behaviour!

I'd certainly complain, they've not told you a pertinent fact that may have altered your purchase decision.

However, I'd probably still keep the car, assuming you really have fallen for it.

I had a Boxster S that was specced to high heaven, it was the TV press car, I ran it for 4 years, never missed a beat. I strongly suspect that it had been serviced to within an inch of its life before I picked it up. However, I did know this when I bought it.

I'd see if I could pick up some extra warranty or a free service to ease my annoyance if I was you.

The subterfuge would irritate me and I'd let them know of my frustration but most importantly, how does it 'feel'? If it feels good to drive and doesn't give the experience of a hard life I wouldn't worry. All the Porsche test drives I've had have involved the salesman ensuring it's warmed up which would be my concern.

My GTS is in with Reading OPC to have some rattles fixed. They have been great so far and report them fixed - will see tomorrow.

When I took it down there, it was -1.5 degrees with <100 metres visibility in the freezing fog last week. Felt like I was pushing my luck, but driving carefully zero dramas.

Will hold onto it until I find the right 911 GTS, probably.

yeah i hate that kind of behaviour too, especially as i asked the question directly more than once.

but if i were to send the car back when would i ever find another with those (or similar) options? Manual, buckets, sports suspension, GTS int/ext pack, PTV, Bose, alcantara and so on.

most are PDKs with leather with sports seats...

will most likely make a complaint and ask for more warranty/money off.

there's another thing i noticed now. i did a car check and although i was told 3 previous owners, the log book and car check are showing only 2. but the named second driver on the book is different to the name on the invoice for the service that took place a couple of months ago.

has definitely soured the experience.

sorry, missed your post earlier.

like i said above, the car feels good to me, but honestly i wouldn't really know - this is my first sports car so i have nothing to compare to. it's in pretty much perfect condition inside and out and doesn't really show any signs of being used without due regard. it's nice and tight on the road still, steering and gearbox feel good, engine sounds great and so on, but i have no idea of the actual condition of the engine or its components.

the only niggle so far is when i have the heating on above 50%ish fan i can hear some kind of air 'struggle' around by the door, as if there is something obstructing the airway.

i've been itching to try the car out properly but with the temperatures so low and the damp conditions the wheels spin up in 2nd and 3rd even going in a straight line.

I understand your disappointment, but I'd keep it as you sound like you'd look after it and it is the "right" spec.

Shame there's discrepancies Jason as it's a pretty rare spec. So rare I was sure I'd seen it for sale before - http://www.top555.co.uk/stock/details/Porsche-Caym...

Giving them a ring might help clear some doubts? I think they're well regarded specialists on PH anyway.

will definitely be looking after the car - it really is immaculate inside and out and it would be a bit of a shame not to look after it.

yes that's the one - well spotted.

gave them a call and was able to get a bit more info on the car which has indeed helped so thanks for that.

just want to relax and enjoy the car now smile

Hi all, have just been to look at a really nice CGTS and have a couple of questions and welcome any opinions / advice!
Firstly, can't believe the noise it made, sounded absolutely gorgeous, is this because it's a GTS (with sports exhaust/sports plus etc) or is that how an S would sound too with Sports exhaust?

Secondly, the spec of the one i saw is a little light, e.g. is full leather interior with body colored inserts, no Sat Nav and No Bose & no parking sensors. Do people think this would be a bit of a problem given future resale / depreciation etc as is quite a low spec. Is a 1 owner car, 10k miles, so what do people think would be a good price? I know Porsche Aberdeen recently sold one at about £52k i think it was.

Am going to see a couple of nicely specced S's tomorrow, so will be good to get a back to back comparison, ideally i'd love a GTS, but am slightly concerned the spec on this one is not quite right though.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/comments!

The exhaust on the GTS is meant to have a unique sound, so an S fitted with a sports exhaust won't sound the same.

So long as it's priced £6-7k below cars with Nav, Bose, etc, then it should be fine, especially if you know where you're going, don't listen to much music and know how to park using eyes/mirrors. With this sort of spec you will get less at resale than a fully specced example, but you save at the front end of the deal.

If it's a manual then light spec may not be as much of an issue.
