Use PDK in manual mode, your car cannot see the bend or car coming, I have been on track in PDK cars and people drive in auto !!! The cars change gear after the event/bend.

LOL, that was me.

And, to be fair, I had only collected the car less than 24 hours previously. Besides, leaving it in auto is the quickest way round. There was a massive thread on here about it ages ago after Porsche posted some stats up. PDK is fiendishly clever once you get to know all its little quirks.

Is the PDK box in the GTS the same as the new GT3 (apart from ratios)? Thanks...

991 GT3 has PDK S which has shorter paddle throws and 100 millisecond changes...also non creep like 458 and thankfully 'manuel' equals 'manuel' mode so no auto changes when floored unlike PDK.........driving

does PDK shift even in manual then?

even my M235i wont shift up in manual mode, it will bounce off the rev limiter?

yes it does which is why I think it is not an option for me and why I have gone for the manual. the PDK-S (991 GT3) is a full manual, it won't upshift unless you tell it too.

Page 146 of my manual.....There is no automatic up shift at the upper engine-speed limit in selector position M. Up shift suppression can be cancelled by kick down operation. If, for example, the engine speed limit is reached during overtaking and an automatic up shift does not occur, the transmission in this case shifts up as a result of kick down operation.

In a nutshell, if you don't have the delicacy of operation of your right foot, the kick down point will be breached and both up and downshifts will occur, whenever you bury the pedal into the shag pile.

The kick down point is easily felt, but I will admit it is quite easily breached when you get a bit excited. I would prefer it to be eliminated altogether in Sport/Sport Plus with Manual mode, but it isn't and I can't justify a 991 GT3, so there you have it.

Every day is a school day. I didn’t know that. This implies that no damage will occur to anything by bouncing of the rev limiter so the logic does seem a bit odd. Seems like the upshift inhibit would work better if it was associated with sport or sport +.

I also love my PDK, it wipes the floor with my old Scirocco DSG in terms of smarts, smoothness and shift speed.

PDK is about numbers and speed, is that what a 330bhp car is about ??

it has a place in high power mega cars and in fact turbos at any level. but in a fun 300 BHP NA sports car ?choosing PDK is a life over love of driving fail imo.

It detaches you from the car in a whole another level and while electric steering does that in spades already why detach yourself even further ?

there is no point in listening to us, we are all individual. But, if you plan on having it as a fun car to use occasionally then no way would have choose PDK. For me PDK is about convenience, for when I can't be arsed ie in London or commuting etc. The PDK does detach you from things a bit, to me it also makes the car seem a bit flat as its just so smooth and linear.

Lastly, the next gen of cars won't even have the option of a manual from an emissions standpoint, so get a manual while you can if there is even the slightest hesitation on the paddles. soon the market will decide for you.

If you enjoy driving in the sense of engaging with the drive train and forming a relationship with the car (you know what I mean), go for the manual.

PDK is excellent, but it creates a level of detachment and makes driving fast too easy.

From what I've read both the manual and the PDK are either at or near the top of their respective games, both are great so there's no bad choice.

I'm not going to hate on manuals like lots of folk do on the PDK cars, I haven’t driven a manual Cayman or Boxster but I'm sure they are fantastic, as are PDK cars. Test drive both and decide from there.

Depending on who you believe take up figures for new PDK Porsches is something like 70-80% so there must be something going for them, for me its convenience since I live in central London and it’s my daily driver.

No right or wrong with either, opinions vary depending on what you want from your car.

I'd love a Cayman R like mrdemon but can't afford both so I have made my choice and I wouldn't change it. Others feel differently and that's fine.

As for the electric steering surely no one can really believe it makes any real world difference on the road? I can't but I'm just an ordinary bloke and no driving god type...?

I'm sure the debate will go on and on and on and on and....

The Cayman R steering really is in a different league to the new cars. I find the 981's dead in hand by comparison.
