Hello Gents,
Just back from a 90 min's session in Silverstone with the red CGTS you can see in previous pictures. Almost aligned with my "nice to have" spec car in terms of gearbox, chassis, interiors except for alcantara sw, buckets seats, which anyway I tried in a 981CS.
Well, at first, I have to say this Porsche Experience Center is very well organised and people are friendly.
The car: wow, it is really enjoyable but I have no benchmark except of a Nissan GTR I drove 2 month ago in a proving groung.
Pushed hard in two different tracks plus the low friction track. It is really amazing, sport chassis is just excellent, it let you put the car wherever you want. Tried also the kick plate track with wet surface and the full wet slalom track.
I've checked the ground clearance of the front dam (small plastic flap just forward the front wheel), it is 80 mm ca, the flap was heavily scratched in his inner side, anyway I agree with lemanning, it seems to me ok for normal ramps.
I'had a chance to try also the launch control several time: impressive, push your head back to the headrest, although in terms of torque the car is far away from the GTR.
Just a couple of negative notes for PDK: it automatically downshift also in manual mode if you flat out the accelerator at low engine revs. Moreover sometime I felt very messy to change gear when in a curve, it might be a lack of discipline in using the steering wheel and the gearbox, in fact it was better at the end of the session. Now I understand why paddles in Ferraris and Lambos are fixet to the steering column.
The exhaust: gents, unbelievable, just forgot it when I was in the car and overall Henry Catchpole's video let feel it a monster if compared to what I've experienced, i.e. once you are in the car, the engine sound and induction noise is mixed with exhaust notes and therefore it is not possible to appreciate the exhaust as appeared in recent press videos. Anyway it is excellent, but I was expecting something different. I also drove it with windows opened. I have to say, it is also a pleasure to drive the car at low speed, pdk is soo smooth, I felt 100% connected with the car.
I love the carmine red rev counter, it is not too bright and after an half hour I was able to just catch the rev indicator without removing my eyes from the road, this is for a proper gearshift. I will definitely opt for GTS interior in case of purchase. Alcantara vs Leather: well the instructor pointed out that they've opted to leather steering wheel due to heavy use expected but I am confident the alcantara one will be fine with my "clean" hands.
Bucket seats are very basic if compared with the standard one: metal brackets/fixings to the floor are visible and there is not any adjustments except the longitudinal one. They fit me very well, getting in and out of the car is not too painful if compared with standard ones. Do I really need them? I know I would regret them after a couple of months...I am quite sure.
Now I need to make a decision and find a good deal...

You pressed the kickdown switch beyond the normal travel of the pedal. It's a 'feature' and if you don't use it, the car will stay in the gear you selected.S
Yes, right, the instructor told me about that switch. Honestly it was hard to understand when the accelerator was at the wide open throttle position without pushing the switch, and sometimes I didn't feel any increased force through the pedal when at wot to avoid the switch.
It might be a matter of more practice needed, anyway I don't think it is 100% poka yoke (error proof).

Has anyone managed more than £2000 discount ( excluding any finance discount contribution ) on a new GTS ?
Porsche and the dealer will both be making an enormous profit on the car at a much larger discount than that, so start very low and let them argue you upwards. The margins are huge once you add the options, and the GTS is not (as far as I am aware) in short supply, so you have the power.curley said:

I've been told by a number of dealers that discounts on the car may lead to the car order being rejected from Porsche UK. However, I have been offered £2000 of the list price from one dealer.

epic spec! fair play for all the lovely options and the gorgeous carbon seats!
any more info on the deal? and provider?
Thanks. any more info on the deal? and provider?
I will say I didn't get too much off the car but the overall package is fantastic, well was shocked when I was told over the phone. However, the dealer isn't local to me.

Ok so today I went to the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone for a half day in the Cayman GTS. My car is scheduled to arrive in early October and this is the first drive I have ever had in a Cayman (have owned 2x Boxsters & 2x 911s).
I was at the Silverstone centre on Wednesday too. Great setup and a really good review Lee. I took a photo showing a nice mix of all the cars ( i think Caymans were in the majority) waiting for the track.Al.

Hmmmm. I doubt that is the case at all. Porsche lie number 2765929284372.However, I have been offered £2000 of the list price from one dealer.
If it is true, this is why the European Commission really should insist that cars be sold by the manufacturer to the dealer and then the dealer to the buyer with none of these kind of restrictions. We should be able to negotiate with the dealer without worrying about its relationship with the next link in the chain.

that is resale price maintenance, which is illegal.
Anything is legal as long as you don't get caught, and the Commission has always lost its bottle when dealing with this issue. It's a bit like the taxi cartel in London. Absolutely blatant but not a fight anyone has ever been prepared to pick.
The dealer I have placed my order with offered a demo of a Cayman GTS for the afternoon.
OMG! The noise! You really have to experience the noise first hand. I found it completely intoxicating, is the only way I can describe it. Its a sure fire way loose the licence.
The GTS I had for the day was in manual guise, the first thing I will say is the manual box is lovely. However, for me I personally found it a too longer throw changing gear and it was a bit clunky. Just to clarify that comment a little bit in and around town that's when I found it to be a little clunky. That said when you have a free run on some nice country lanes, the manual really shines.
Overall that's not changed my opinion and has also confirmed that the PDK is the correct choice for me. The PDK in full manual mode is just WOW!
I now have a long time to wait but boy is it worth it, this car as most of the reviews have said is simply put "Epic"

Been hooning around the Porsche test track this week myself.
Absolutely fantastic day, extremely well looked after, Porsche GB do an absolutely stellar job of running this event and making owners and potential owners feel very special (if only this could filter into the dealer network). You get a proper 3 course meal and your own 'driving consultant' for the afternoon, teaching some genuinely useful things, like how to handle the car on ice or low grip roads.
I drove a lime gold metallic Cayman GTS. Would not be my colour or spec, as it had those stupid buttons rather than the paddles. When will they bring the multi-function sports steering wheel from the Macan to the Cayman?
There was also a yellow Cayman GTS in the showroom, optioned to the hilt - £75k!
