Used mine for a work related dash yesterday. Covered about 100 miles of various road types. I don't really care about weight or what seats, brakes, R, S, GTS or standard. Manual or PDK the Cayman in whatever guise is a great car and whether your buy is dictated by budget or you can spec it to the hilt you will have a great sports car for the road. Nowt like it out there as a package IMO.

I'm off on a UK road trip in a couple of weeks when the car will be the star, can't wait (and I'm old!).....

Latest news re Cayman GTS having visited my OPC earlier today is that their total allocation for this year is four cars..

They will be lucky to get many more in 2015 and production of new cars will only last 12/18 months!

Apparently this is normal for the GTS models over the whole range, 911, Cayanne etc.

That's good news, I think, as whilst I'm not suggesting they will be a future classic or rise in value, it means they will always attract a buyer because of their relative rarity?.

Possibly so but am I right in saying the GTS designation only has a short, 12/18 month, build life?

Who knows ? I can build a nicer looking and speced Cayman S spec for less than the GTS with GTS pack, so the GTS you are just paying for the 10bhp and body work, which you can take or leave the latter, esp the smoked lights.

A bespoked Cayman S with more leather nice white dials and red seat belts looks much nicer and cost less !!!

Also the GTS weighs more ??

ODD car really

The weights published by Porsche are the standard equipment weights of each car.
The additional weight (5KG?) on the GTS is down to the additional equipment you get as standard on the GTS - e.g PASM vs normal passive suspension as standard on a normal Cayman S & Extended leather/Alcantara as standard on the GTS etc.

Spec a Cayman S the same a GTS it will weigh the same.

Looks are entirely a matter of opinion, don't really see why people feel the need to comment on that.

The reviews of the GTS are off-the-scale positive. Cayman is an amazing car to start with and the GTS is a step on again, "greater than the sum of its parts", etc. Don't let any negativity put you off - you're getting an outstanding motor, so feel as lucky as you are.

OPC Reading doing a GTS driving day next month, so I've signed up for the Boxster one. Can't wait!

but a Cayman S with x73 will out drive a GTS with PASM !!! so you may as well build a nicer cheaper Cayman S !

the thing which puts me off the GTS in a BIG way is red dials with GTS pack, daft I know but enough for me not to buy one.

much rather spec my own colours with white dials, more leather and red seat belts, plus colour code the wing mirrors in full as they are 1/2 painted which looks rank and have nice clear rear lights.

All the press cars are X73, people are specing PASM on the whole !!!

You can specify the interior colour of the GTS pack red or silver.

I have silver dial all of the exterior plastic bits painted black using the GTS exterior pack (£600).

Leather dash, leather backs on seats and the "mandatory" X73 with CCB.

"their total allocation" : Worldwide, UK or simply just your OPC?

Is that what you're going to do then? No, because you've already decreed that the 987 is as far as it goes for you.

So why come on here telling other people that you think the way they choose to spend their own money is wrong? I'm struggling to remember the last positive thing you said on here that wasn't about your own cars or an Audi.

actually a like for like caymanS/gts ie buckets pse chrono x73 etc are almost the same price for example my specd gts with the gts pack plus the exterior gloss pack (circa a £2700 extra) is about £65k and my perfect cs is £62k without gts packs(£300 in it) so one would be mad to go for an S when a gts is almost same money(was the same case with the987 cs and 987R)
The only reason to go for a cs is to go for the smaller wheels(19"boxster wheels look nice which would be my choice) with the x73 for even better handling!
as for weight yet again identical cars so would be the same weight

I must admit chaps, I try to ignore Mr Demon after my last little 'spat' with him, but he is becoming rather too annoying of late. Every thread I have an interest in (usually '981' based) is ruined by his 'troll' like arrogant contributions which are completely worthless.

But I guess he will now cry and say he is being bullied...as he has done before....and call me 'gutter level' for joining in...

Please Mr Demon, move on....buy an Audi V10 and then lecture the Audi gents why all their cars are rubbish because they don't have EXACTLY the same spec as yours....please? ...hey?

harsh, just stating a few facts about the spec and prices.

It's funny people harp on about the press cars then spec PASM on their own cars.

I like the cars, but don't quote me press car bull st then buy PASM cars, it's a joke, the 981 had the x73 options only a few months after launch.
the GTS is much the same car, and yes while a great car you can spec a Cayman S up to look nicer imo and drive the same. that is the fact of the matter, not trolling or bullst.

Amazing what a review can do or how clever Porsche are in fact fitting the X73 pack to the press cars.

I would say make some valid points and leave off the attacks yes, I am not attacking any one here, just voicing my views, if it upsets then tough.
I cannot help that you speced your car wrong and now you are angry lol as that what it looks like when you post after I have made comments !!!

In fact every one who is moaning has speced PASM !!!!

Same re ignoring. Bitten my tongue more times than I care to remember. I've actually tried standing up for him in the past. Plus I do think there has been a bit of bullying in the past (that whole bingo thing was really unpleasant and rightly pulled), which is totally deplorable, BUT...

Seriously, if you don't have anything useful to contribute, here's an idea...don't.

Anyone lucky enough to be waiting for, or to already have, a 981 GTS (Cayman or Boxster) should ignore the ramblings and reflect on what an amazing position they're in. And keep the press reviews, because it's always good fun to pick them off the shelf in future years and remind yourself of just how positively they were received.

just to add the gts will have better residuals than a cs so any small savings on the new price of cs vs gts will be wiped out come trade in time.
so the gts is really a no brainer as a new purchase unless as said before you want a caymanS more to your liking/specification!
as for allocation i would imagine they will keep building until march next year and dealers most likely have an allocation of circa 4 a month.so different dealers will have varying wait times depending how full their books are!

No point getting annoyed with mrdemon on this.

Everyone else understands that GTS is about the packaging of the best parts from a ranges options, into a single trim level that is cheaper than if you specced them on a standalone standard car.

The secret sauce of the GTS as a trim level though is the blend of options AND that fact that you also get stuff that cannot just be optioned on:

911 GTS - N/A, power kit inc PSE, wide body for 2wd, centerlocks & alcantara, GT2 side skirts
(Only other 2wd 997 wide bodies are the GT2/3 RS & the sport classic all @ more than twice the price) - Try optioning that on!
Until the 997 GTS, centrelocks were turbo S and GT3/RS only

Panamera GTS - V8, turbo looks/body including wing, PSE & Alcantara
(can only get the V8 in the GTS - everything else is diesel, turbo or hybrid) Try optioning that on!

can't remember what is was for Cayenne - but largely the same as Panny GTS

and now Boxster/Cayman GTS - bodykit, PSE & sound symposer, 'extra bhp', uprated interior & alcantara.
Which list will you select the 10 extra BHP & sound symposer from? Try optioning that on!

The point of GTS is that it is supposed to be the optimised package with the nicest options + some extra goodies in one SKU - the some of which make for generally the best/sweetest car in the range - Not day and night necessarily vs that car it is based upon - but enough to make a difference if you are looking for a package. The thing is neither the car, or owners/perspective owners, claim that is anything that it isn't.
