The warranty requires N-rated tyres to be fitted.
As per my post above, what about mixing brands? N-spec all round but different brands front and back?

Laughably, this is probably ok.

I currently have Goodyears all round but the rears are shot, so ordered Bridgestones in N-spec. The front don't need changing so I'm not buying a full set unnecessarily!

It definitely won't be ok to mix brands. Don't forget the N number is the iteration of that particular tyre, so a new model Michelin at N0 could be a more modern up to date tyre than an N6 Bridgestone (and vice versa). Given that N numbers must match all the way around the car I can't see how on earth anyone would think it's ok to mix brands just because they had the same N numbers.

While it wasn't on a performance car several years back I replaced the rear tyres on my wifes BMW. The version of Bridgestones that it came on were no longer available so I put on a pair of the version that Bridgestone had replaced them with.
It was like driving a car with a flexible joint in it, we persevered with them for 500 miles plus to see if it would improve. It didn't and the fronts had to be changed for the same tyre even though they had 6mm left on them.
Hope you don't have a similar problem.

I never had a problem on my Gallardo, my question was more around whether Porsche would kick up a fuss over a warranty claim given the different brands even though they'd all be the right sizes and N0 spec all round.......rears are always going to wear out quicker on a RWD car, surely they don't expect you to buy a full set every time the rears need changing but the fronts are ok??

I do find it odd you would do this, the goodyear is a great tyre, now you just have unmatching tyres.

The thought process was to show that it is possible to get some very unwanted side effects from having different tyres even from the same manufacturer. My Leon FR daily driver exhibited some awful snap breakaway when I fitted Goodyear Eagles on the front to replace the Bridgestones while Bridgestones were on the rear. I'm glad you didn't have problems with your Gallardo but the point is you can if you are not lucky.
With regard to the warranty I would suggest it will depend on how observant your dealer is when dealing with a claim.
If they want to get out of a claim then non approved tyres could be enough.
I would be as worried about unwanted driving characteristics on a your car as anything else.

I have to agree. The Goodyears are a significantly better tyre than the Bridgestones - why mix them up?

Because I've never liked Goodyears and the RE050's have been decent on other cars in the past. I'll be replacing the front Goodyears in the coming months no doubt.

I read earlier that the Cayman and Boxster in GTS trim are fitted with Goodyear Eagle F1s. Did you consider those?
They can be fitted with F1s, but only as much as any other tire Porsche uses. My Cayman GTS came with PZeroes. It really depends on what officiated tires (Bridgestone, Goodyear, Pirelli) are at the factory for fitment -- it's that simple.

Michelin PSS should have N rated version for the 911 and Boxster/Cayman in "late 2015" from what I've heard.

Just fitted PSS to my wife's C4s, previously set was PS. One word of caution - they perform fantastically, but the ride feels like the sidewalls are stiffer, and tthey are surprisingly noisy at around 50/60. It is an odd thrum. Had the set checked and all seems fine. But other posters have noticed they are noisier than the DB ratings suggest.

I am having new 20" P zeros fitted to my 981 Cayman tomorrow.

I asked about Mich N rated...they said....and I couldn't belive this...only the front tyres are available as N rated on Mich!!!! weird, hey?

Anyway, since I covered 30K on my current P Zeros, I am having another set of those fitted.
How do you find the P-Zero's compared to the others, I ask as my P-Zero shod CS is six years old in the spring and it's still on its original fronts I'am planning to replace all four tyres, I find the Pirelli's pretty good but I've not driven on the other brands.

My thoughts too.

My tyres will all be OEM sizes and N0 spec, just Goodyear upfront and Bridgestone at the rear....

Because I want to keep them N-spec for the warranty on my car and also because I'll be changing the Goodyears upfront for Bridgestone's late spring/early summer anyway.....could of just bought Goodyears for the rear but I really don't like them....

Curious, what don't you like? We've got second set of Goodyear on the back & originals on the front and more than happy, albeit without direct comparison to an alternative.

From the brands I've had on various 987/981 I would put in this order with best at the top (all are Porsche approved N rated, because my cars are new and under warranty).

1st Michelin Pilot Sports
Joint second P zero and Contis
3rd and utter rubbish Bridgestone Potenza RE050A....no good in wet or dry...crap

I'm quite keen on trying the PSS on the 987 but I'm quite impressed with the Bridgestone. Plenty of grip in low temps and heavy rain.
