I might be wrong, but don't those figures suggest a 3.6 NA engine? Too much torque for the 3.4?
I don’t think so. The base 991 C2 engine has 3436 cm³ and 350 PS @ 7400 with max torque of 390 Nm @ 5600.
Seems like the GT4 will get a slightly remapped version of that.

base 991 has 390NM in that 3.4: vs the Cayman with 370NM

I guess it can be tuned as the 2015 991.2 will have a BHP and torque lift

Porsche don't have a NA 3.6 now do they ?

on the plus side if it's just a tuned GTS then prices should be a lot cheaper.

just lets hope it has some new 6 pots so you don't have to order PCCB at 6k, and the real Fixed back carbon buckets in the GT2 RS
folding buckets is daft and lazy in the Cayman.

Shows what I know! Thanks, guys. It's good news if Porsche has lifted the redline on the 3.4 - it should be a noisy little bugger.

I thought there was a plan to replace the 3.4 in the base Carrera, but I again may be wrong! It might make sense to keep it, I suppose, if it is slightly more fuel efficient than the 3.8 (which it should be).

Now that I have a little ORD on the way, I expect I am on my last Cayman (at least for a few years). I have already begun explaining to my wife what a safe car the Targa would be for the baby.

seems to make sense to just drop in whatever the 2015 991.2 base engine will be.

then just tune the exhaust and map to make the new R/GT4.

Now that you mention that, I hope that isn’t the long rumored 6-cylinder twin turbo engine.
I’d almost make sense for the base Carrera and GT4 to have a small twin turbo while the Carrera S gets the 3.8L NA version.

Of course it is too early to tell and I’m sure the car will be more than the sum of all its parts, but I hoped for more with the GT4.
If they price it similar to the 991 C2S then I don't think they will sell a lot of them (see Spyder/Cayman R) which should be good for residuals but I would look elsewhere.

Turbo's are 2017 I thought for the next gen Boxster/Cayman so I doubt that esp as the face lift 991 is out 2015 and is finished already.

the 991.2 and lets hope the GT4 should both be at the March 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The model is Ashley Sky about the fittest girl I have even seen...

The render of the GT4 is not to shabby either.

Good man. I was not, of course, about to ask and/or to stalk her.

so what will the gt4 be like?this post reminds me of the speculation surrounding the R before it arrived ie 3.8 ,lightweight etc.!yes the R is a good car but imho not a great car as some would say.why? having driven passive suspension boxster/cayman for some eight years prior to the R arrival after a test drive in may 2011 it did not blow me away like i thought it would it was just a little bit better than what had gone before a natural progression, but i can see why people coming from other models/brands love it as the cayman has always been a great car since 2005 and the boxster for many years before and imho the spyder/r are the pinnacle of that bloodline.
so how is the gt4 going to loose weight almost all the body panels and some chassis parts are aluminium on the 981 now, unlike the R/spyder which were fitted with alu doors to loose weight which were shared with not only the gt3 but also the 3.6 997.2 for the uk market(this was to reduce emissions below 225g).also extras like buckets that are available on the gts at a smaller cost than before and aircon that was fitted back into most caymanRs
if the gt4 is built with the track in mind then it will be a pdk as we all know its quicker!it will almost most likely have a highly tuned 3.4 giving circa 375hp at circa 8k rpm!
so with the above in mind will the 981 gts x73 with bucket seats and manual box be a better purchase for the road and occasional track use?or will the fabled gt4 be something great following in the footsteps of the the gt3?or just another porsche marketing exercise!

ps mrd love the pick surprised it hasnt been taken down by the mods!biggrin

I think you really grow into the R, you push it more, you change the geo, it is a great car to drive and I had a 2005 Cayman S.
I still think it's the best car I have owned from 50 cars inc 4 or 5 from the evo 200.

If they up the torque in the new model then it will be better to drive, fixed buckets and 6 pots will help it over the GTS .

Bar that does It need much else bar a bespoke colour and nice aero kit. Ajustable lca would be sweet so I can keep it in warranty and also keep it manual :-) as I still have 2 working legs and arms. And a true PSM off please !!!

After living with the R for 12k miles I don't want a GT type of car, the R is ni on perfect , just a tad more power please.
