Edinburgh have a nice Guards red 981 2.7 manual for £39K

I didn't get a penny off my 981 due to being so keen to get it (I ordered it in Nove 2012 when it was launched at the LA motorshow).

But, I reckon if you're flexible with spec, you could pick up a new one from stock or demo and knock a bit off.

These Caymans don't need many toys added. I have the sat nav, upgraded speakers and the wheels....didn't bother with leather etc... the Alcantara looks great!

If you can, I would go for the 981...

Good luck!
I live nearby and had a look at this. At the time it was just in and the forecourt price was 2k higher. The car is pretty much immaculate - just a couple of very light paint scuffs which would polish out easy enough. What put me off was the two tone leather. Esp the light leather surround around the dials. I'm still looking. If I can get a nearly new 2.7 manual for just over the new price but with some decent options, then I'll go for it. I'm prepared to wait for the right car.

I was just about to buy in the white from Hippo cars, but after they had a week to prepare the car, when I travelled down to pick it up, it had a couple of rough scuffs, a few badly repaired stone chips and a stone ding on the rear quarter. One of the rough scuffs still had wet paint on it when they brought it round to me! I was gutted, but walked away and was glad that I did.

I've just been given a brand new white Cayman non S with Sports Exhaust and 20" black wheels.
It's 275bhp rather than the 240 someone else mentioned. I wouldn't want it because I prefer the open top Boxster ... but boy does it get looks.

The Sports Exhaust which I wouldn't get for an S makes perfect sense on the non S as it makes it look like an S and burbles nicely.

It's only done 400 miles so I wouldn't drive it hard ... but it's clearly a lot of fun. It's also manual some it doesn't feel as urgent as the PDK ... and whilst there is perhaps 50bhp off the S, it is probably more the fact that the power and torque require more revs to realise.

I can well believe that this would be a more accessible fun car to many people on today's roads than the PDK S which gets to silly speeds so fast it often doesn't make sense on English country roads.

Would I swap my 18mth old Boxster S for a standard Cayman or Boxster ... no ... but if I'd got the Cayman in the first place, my only worry would be the attention it gets from just about everyone !

Paul.

Indeed Paul... I loved my 987 and tried to resist the urge to change. It remains a fantastic car. But the 981 gets so much more attention (a little embarrassing and not quite the point, but nice to see it makes people smile). The only thing to 'beware' is people sometimes taking your photo as you drive along...!
