I had a coming together on the M6 this weekend with a peace of chipboard whist travelling at ‘speed’ in the Cayman R.
The impact has been absorbed by the number plate itself and the front centre black plastic kidney bowl under the number plate, so fortunately there’s no damage to the bumper or paint work.

So;
1. The black kidney bowl has become detached from the bumper in the impact. All of the fastening lugs are still in place, but it seems that it can only be refitted from the back of the bumper. Is this a bumper off job or am I missing something simple?
2. I now need to replace the front number plate. The current standard plate is oversized for the mounting plinth. To my eyes this looks a little odd. Has anyone fitted a smaller plate, and if so where did they purchase it from. I am aware that a smaller plate might be frown upon by the eyes of the law.

I once hit a pigeon (poor thing) in my 987 and the black plastic bit was pushed out of place...i went to the dealership and had them push it back into place. They had to undo a few screws but wasn't bumper off... was a quick job, maybe 20 mins from memory.

Thanks marky999. I was going to book the car in for one of the free inspections they are marketing at the moment. Perhaps I can talk them into refitting it at the same time!

I run a 3/4 size plate on my Cayman R. I took the backing plate off only to find that some clown had previously drilled right through the backing plate and into the bumper. I had the bumper plastic welded and repainted and then fitted the 3/4 plate with velcro. If the backing plate is only held on with the standard two screws then a 3/4 plate should cover the holes.

Plates purchased online from FancyPlates.Com

Hope this helps.
