OK to fire it out and a new one in, no alarm/electronic issues?

You'll get a few faults displayed such as PSM failure but they'll clear after you've run it for a few minutes - they will show up on the computer on your next service though - nothing to worry about.

Opc was going to charge me for this but did it as a gesture of good will...

Windows will need resetting also, OPC was more than happy for me to swap battery when mine died.

OK nothing too scary then, It's a varta battery in there just now but it's not been very good, gets used every day of the year as well.

Just had a look, think it's Bosch S4010, can anyone confirm? £72 delivered not too scary smile

Thanks,

Dunc.

Edit Bosch also do a S5010 for "upper class cars" rofl It's £85, worth the extra?

S4010:- 12V, capacity 80Ah, cold test current 740A, 315mm long, 175mm wide, 175mm high
S5010:- 12V, capacity 85Ah, cold test current 800A, 315mm long, 175mm wide, 175mm high

They are twice the CCA of the standard battery so either will be fine, I guess.

All done, no problem beyond a few flashy lights on the dash on start up. Keeps the radio station and CD names etc too smile

On the 2007 cayman it's in the front boot right next to the bulk head under a plastic cover. It's mounted very high which isn't ideal but I guess packaging problems dictated this.

Cheers,

Dunc.

Did you do what I had to do and climb into the boot to get it out :-)

I think you can avoid all this "resetting" if you get some thin wires and crocodile clips so that the new battery is connected before you disconnect the old one. You don't need heavy jump start cables - just normal wire and some decent crocodile clips.

What actually needs to be reset? OPC said they had to do this on my car and should have charged me but as a gesture of good will they didn't...

Freak it's a beast isn't it!

On the resetting stuff, the radio stations stay and the clock sets itself which is cool. Only thing I had to do was put the windows up and down and even at that it could probably just wait until the next time you put the window down?

Cheers,

Dunc.

Nope.
Bosch use the En measurement and Moll Kamina batteries
(who make the Porsche one) use Din measurement
which is why it appears much lower but is in effect, roughly the same.

Of course the dealer will still make you fit the Moll if you want the warranty.
