usally when you put the key in the ignition, the airbag light lights up and theres a "click". Turn the key to turn the ignition on and all the dash lights light up, and radio etc turns on.

Every so often when i put the key in the ignition, nothing happens, no "click" or lights, i can turn the key all the way to try start the car, but nothing happens. I then take the key out and try again, some times it works 2nd time. other times it takes 5-6 trys until i can get the ignition on, and start the car. frown

Anyone had this problem before? or anyone shed any light on what might be causing this?

Cheers

Sounds as if it could be the ignition switch - they are known to fail.

Yup sounds like ignition switch, mine did similar when it failed. I bought the switch from a VW dealer as it is a genetic part and cost £23. If you go to OPC they will only offer the whole steering lock & switch as a unit for around £180 if my memory serves me correctly.
It's a bit fiddley but if you have patience will save a fortune
