They would never get away with it
And my other car's a 924 Carrera GTS ... start believing. The V4 will only fit the Cayman and Boxster and it will be beautifully balanced, -- as good as a boxer six, but dry sumped and lower in the chassis.
It must be 400bhp and 300 + ft lbs ++--- and they'll sell a power upgrade, and big brakes.
Sure it will compete with the GT3, but that's to big a car for scratchers
And ultimately, it can't deal with the mid engined cars.
This will form the basis of the 988 -- 2 x V4's in a Ferrari destroyer. Let's call it a V8
we can dream......
v4 430bhp twin turbo, GT3 PCCBs, clubsport 918 buckets, GT3 rear suspension, adjustable coilovers, 1300kgs oh and full LED headlights, leather+stictching delete, AC delete and stereo delete compulsory, carbon roof skin and forged 19" alloys with Cup 2s
85k base price target, 95k with all goodies.
Since it is so ballistic, it needs to be sports PDK only........
I think this comes up every time rumours of a souped up cayman appear. i believe deep inside, all porsche fans want a mid engined ferrari speciale creamer at 50% cost. what a laugh it will be

I currently have a E89 Z4 sDrive2.0i Cab (a 2L 4-cylinder turbo) as a rental and my god what a hopeless, gutless and terrible engine that is. The automatic transmission (zf 8hp which everybody seems to love?) robs the last bit of fun that the engine has left in it.
It didn’t occur to me until I opened this thread that the new Boxsters might get a vaguely similar engine.
If that engine is the slightest indication of what direction we are headed in then I should sell all my assets and buy dozens of manual 996 GT3s, 997 GT3s, Cayman Rs, Spyders and the like because I believe the prices will explode.

I agree. If the new fast Caymans are all going to be 4 pots, I would expect Cayman R prices to remain very strong indeed, and for the 981 GTS prices to hold up really well, too. It didn’t occur to me until I opened this thread that the new Boxsters might get a vaguely similar engine.

Mine will be used rarely for track use, I think GTS with PDK, buckets, and x73 is the best for road use. On top of that, I would not spend £75k for a Cayman.
I speced up a manual gts to 73k !! Add PDK and that's 75k ? Mine will be used rarely for track use, I think GTS with PDK, buckets, and x73 is the best for road use. On top of that, I would not spend £75k for a Cayman.
If the new 3.6 is only 75k with nice bits sounds good to me, I would spend 75k on a Cayman

But does this make it lighter, more agile, more responsive --- more R --- ?
The new MX5 (shudder the mention on such hallowed ground) will weigh in at 1 tonne straight.
Times they are a changing -- at last.
Mass is the enemy.
Completely agree. The silver lining of all the eco stuff is lighter cars isn't it.The new MX5 (shudder the mention on such hallowed ground) will weigh in at 1 tonne straight.

MK1 MX5 was a lovely drive was not least thanks to the lack of weight (as well other things that MX5 folk know and love).
If they can get a GT4 sub 1200kg but it's a 4 pot, I could live with that as it'd be amazing. My M135i could never be a serious weekend hooner because of its mass, for example.

+ 1 billion1000kg and I would test drive it at least. Any heavier and you are getting a little bit less weight and a much worse engine.
I feel like I must be taking crazy pills when people can get excited about a powerful turbo 4 pot when the alternative is one of best sounding and most rewarding types of engine around.
Even worse than BMW dropping the V8 in the M3 in favour of a turbo 6 that may as well be a diesel
