Hi all,
I have a PCM1 unit in my 986 S - I assume it requires the cd drive to run the sat nav- thus making a music cd unusable.

if I fitted a cd changer unit will it run the sat nav from the main unit and play a cd from the changer-
thanks

PCM 1 has an external CD drive under the main head unit; for Nav CD only. The PCM can only play tapes as far as I know? A CD changer; CDC can be retrofitted under the front lid - costs around £600 iirc (ouch!)

Hi all - hoping I can jump on this recent thread and benefit from some forum wisdom relating to PCM.

I've recently bought a '06 987 S with PCM, and whilst blasting around Europe I found a couple of problems, so I was hoping I could get some help with the following:

1) Intermittent problem with playing CD from the PCM (not the multi-changer). When playing CD's in the PCM unit, there was an intermittent problem that the music would stop and a high pitch continuous tone would appear. I wondered if the laser need cleaning, although not looked at any further. Anyone have a similar experience?

2) I couldn't figure out if my PSM was compatible with MP3's. I can't seem to find the thread which had some details on it that I saw a while back. Anyone able to get me hooked in, or provide a link to somewhere I can get the necessary updates to add the functionality?

3) Whilst using the navigation functionality I appreciated how out of data my Map CD is, can anyone recommend where and how I get something slightly newer versions without going back to Porsche and paying dealer prices?

Cheers

Will

I have tried to get a more up to date map for mine but proving very difficult - I did hear that the opel ones will do the job but your system needs an upgrade which it may or may not have -
As for the intermittent issue - no idea -

Unfortunately I still have no answer from my OP - my unit has no option to play tapes !? ( see post2)

1 - I believe there is a software update for the CD player in the head unit.
2 - mp3 compatibility was introduced some time in 2006. If you check your system software (press MAIN and TRIP together) I think Version 4.0 is when it was introduced. Software updates won't give you compatibility - it is a hardware issue.
3 - 08.2012 is the latest map disk available.

If you need the CD player update CD, drop me an email and I'll dig it out for you.

I think you must have PCM2.0 then. If it has a CD slot at the top of the head unit, it is PCM2.0. It was introduced for MY2003 (Sept 2002).
