Looks good to me, I am not worried about Cat D or C for that matter.

Wouldn't touch it, it looks like 3 different shades of colour. The passenger door is a completely different colour to the front & rear wing. When you look at the picture of the 'apparent' write off damage there isn't any issues with the door. I reckon it's had a grader shunt than claimed, to me it looks like both front wings & bonnet has been painted plus the rear wing.

Also, anyone who is prepared to repair a car & paint to the edge of a panel rather than blend to get a good match, I'd cutting corners. If they're prepared to do that then I wouldn't guarantee the quality of any structural repairs.

In my opinion you're better off putting a bit of extra cash to an honest car without the cat C/D category, that way you shouldn't have too many issues with selling in the future. You may even find that the premium you pay now will be reflected when you come to sell (perhaps...), rather than limit the future resale market & have an easy negotiation point.

I'd Disagree, silver is a bad colour to shoot on camera. You'd need to see it in the flesh, the pics are too contrasty to make that decision on either way. The damage to the wing stops at the top of the wheel arch anyway.

Well, it's certainly cheap enough and if cash is tight then yep, I think I'd go and look at it. I don't think you can take too much from photos other than it has 4 wheels and seems to be in one piece, you've really got to go and see the car & seller.

The only niggle in my mind would be the damage. If it really was just panel damage then I can't see why it wasn't repaired by the insurance company because that isn't really a big job. I've no idea on Porsche body panels but surely it can't be more than a couple of grand to replace & paint ? I'm just surprised it ended up on cat D.

In your position I'd check the car out. Pay great attention to the bodywork/suspension mounts behind the front wheel just in case when the wing was crushed inwards the wheel moved and bent the suspension or where it mounts on the car. Any signs of repair or damage there and I'd want to see a geometry check before going anywhere with it. Not just tracking alignment, castor/camber, the whole works. If it's been repaired properly and the geometry checks out, then yes, I think I'd take a chance on it.

Perhaps if you're on a budget then a Porsche isn't the right type of car. Regardless of whether it is straight or not, the ongoing running costs are not to be dismissed.

Also, you asked for people's thoughts, hence I added mine.

If no one can see the paint mismatch, then quite frankly they're blind. In my experience, especially with silver it often looks worse when seeing the car in the metal.

You could be right, you could be wrong, however there is no way on earth you can verify paint mis-match from any of those photo's... Camera, lighting, shading, quality & your screen play a huge part in what you see...

My mrs looks gorgeous in photo's wink

silver paint mis match, the was a thread not long ago about new 981s from the factory with mis match from the bumper to the wing. easy to see on a picture but the OPC said they could not see it, there must be a lot of blind people there

buying a car and running it, for me, are two different things. Buying it comes out of a pot of saving and running it comes out of what I earn so I thing your comment is wrong, for me anyway

The car has been advertised in a number of places (Ebay, Autotrader) for some time (2 to 3 Months). I did consider it myself as it does look like a lot of car for the money. Ended up with a Boxster instead with a clean history. There is no harm in looking at the car and if you there is no obvious problems get an AA or RAC inspection. This will put your mind at rest, reassure your insurer and if sold give the new buyer confidence the repairs were carried out to the correct standard.

I made some queries about a similar car before buying my Cayman. The seller sent me a list of all of the work that had been done on the car and the list of parts that had been replaced. Even on a Cat D car it was as long as both arms!

I concluded that a car with as delicate handling as a Cayman was never likely to be the same again after so much work. Its still a 5 figure sum of money to purchase and will be a nightmare to sell on....

I'll keep it factual. I went to see this car. I did not buy this car. Happy to answer any yes/no questions, but I won't deliver a subjective take on the vehicle publicly.

OK, I am still looking and it seems to get an honest car I will need to up my budget.

Saw this but wondered if if it seemed a reasonable price http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...
