When I get around to moving on from my current 996t, I'm thinking of switching to a Cayman. I'd really like an R, but these are going up in price, and out of reach, so have been looking at the gen 1 S sports instead. I know these are small in numbers, but was wondering how close to an R are they?
Are they worth searching out instead of a standard S, as they have all the sorts of kit I like already fitted?

not worth the extra unless you want the paint colour, it's a gen 1 S with a few options and nice paint ie the Orange :-)

but people ask way to much for them over an S which is the same car part for part.

infact I have seen 987.2 cars cheaper than a 987.1 S Sport, so no way would you buy an S Sport at that point.

Have owned both a Cayman S Sport ltd edition in viper green and now the R model.
The thing with a Sport its well equiped slightly more bhp and as in title its a limited edtion which will hold value more.

The R if you can strech to it is a different animal the best road Porsche i have driven its awsome i have owned over 10 Porsches of various models including 996 GT3 s .for me its the best Porsche i have driven on the road really suits all my needs.sure its going up so may be a good investment for the future.

A standards Cayman s gen 1 or 2 will lose big money but still an option if you dont mind a big hit resale time.

Hope that helps.

I'm sure you have seen 987.2 cars cheaper and they probably had less than half the spec of the 987.1 Sport.

The Sport is more than just a few options - it's highly specced with primarily performance/sports options (PASM, PSE, sportschrono etc), interior is all leather and alcantara (looking and feeling way better than other Cayman's I've seen), plus a few extra BHP, 19" wheels and slightly lowered, as well as the minor cosmetic changes - which all make a difference to the look.

Sounds like a GTS really doesn't it, and everyone's raving about them...

And even if they are more expensive than 987.2 cars, doesn't that mean they're likely to continue to depreciate less and therefore be the better long term investment?

Sorry but no - sounds like a Cayman S with PASM, PSE, sports chrono, leather, 19" wheels boxes ticked and painted a bright colour. Still a nice car of course

woo hoo

nice car if you wanted Orange or Green, that's it, not worth paying more than a normal gen 1 S :-(

it's not lowered or has any bespoke kit at all.

Lower than a standard S by virtue of the PASM I thought? Only a 10mm drop.

They're a good spec and if you're happy shelling out the extra for 'em they stand out amongst all the dark coloured cars. Personally I'd consider one, but not for a big premium.

Yes it is lowered, 10mm:

And as I said before, it has a plaque, which I believe is bespoke.

It also came in black, white and silver

It's sits the same as a PASM car as PASM is standard fit.

You can get any car in black, white etc.
