Is it my imagination or do these sound better with a few 1000miles on them?

I wasn't impressed to start with (Cayman R) but now it is sounding lovely and menacing and a hollow howl

It's a fact that exhaust systems get marginally louder as they carbon up. That's what you're probably hearing.

can you guys recommend a aftermarket supply/fitter of sports Exhaust, I looking for a Gen2 Boxster and would like one fitted. Currently have a 5.0L XK and I feel the standard boxster are a little quiet. wink

Dad has a 986 3.2 'S'. We wanted it to make more of a growl but without spending a silly amount on a new box/system or mucking around with a de-cat and worrying about MOT time.

We opted for the Hayward and Scott bypass mod (Essex based too). The difference between stock and this like chalk and cheese. It sounds pretty mega! (I need to get a comparison video up soon). The mod is done to the original box and is completed quite quickly (about an hour and a half for us) and was under £400 IIRC.

Here is a little sample of it starting from cold

If you want to stay original and not go obscene then a Carnewal modification will work. For a 987 it also has the added benefit of taking out the secondary cats.

NO secondary cats in the gen 2 ;-) all 4 are in the manifold !!!

if you are buying after market buy the Carnewal R exhaust it's 55mm and £1.2k modded.

Is that price for an exchange unit? I thought they modified the original silencer?

Is it me or can you not see the bypass pipes?

Mine is running stainless manifolds, 100 cell cats and a Carnewal modified box biggrin

I think normally they are on exchange, but the R system is slightly different and is supplied as-is and no exchange option

+1 for Carnewal GT exhaust. Had it fitted a month or so back and it's been fantastic since. As someone mentioned before, once it carbons up it does get marginally louder. Relatively cheap compared to getting PSE and other aftermarket ones too!
