I just couldn't buy a silver car!!

Don't think it has aircon either......no biggie really but just wrong colour, wrong wheels and no AC.

It's still tempting, especially with that mileage....

just a very basic car with no options though, and as one can spend £20k on options people do like to hunt out cars with some thing !

not that the R needs anything, just buyers are fussy inc my self.

it would have to have at least some thing, ie, leather, Sports crono, PSE, SS, PCCB, Xenons even if it was just one of those.

But it is Manual, spyder wheels and buckets so a nice car, just a little to rich for what it has missing on the option list
Exactly.

If that car had PSE, I probably would have bought it, but I think it's too rich at £43k.

Porsche Solihull quoted me £2288 to retro fit the PSE. It also is out of Porsche warranty so to get that and the PSE you probably wouldn't see much change from £4k........makes it a pretty expensive car.......

Ha!

I wouldn't be having this problem if people just spec'd them properly in the first place laugh

All I want for Christmas is PCM & PSE (in a Cayman R) cool

Everything else is open for debate. Not fussed so much over aircon, miles wouldn't put me off, a high price wouldn't either for the perfect car......somebody must fancy a swap soon..........if I refresh the Cayman classifieds section any more often I might crash the site!!! laugh

Why does it have to have PCM?

I had it down as nice to have when I was looking, but can't say I miss not having PCM. I wouldn't even bother speccing it in a new car now when an iPhone can do just as good, if not better job.
I can't rationally explain it but to me it's a fundamental part of having a high spec car....I don't want to spend £40k+ potentially on a car and then be looking at Google maps on my iPhone on my lap whilst driving or struggling to attach a TomTom to the windscreen or to the dash with wires everywhere etc. I can't explain it any more than "I just want it".

I recently cancelled my GTS order but the first thing I'd spec'd was PCM, wasn't even a consideration of whether to have it or not.

Decent spec cars do come up, it took me 5 months (eventually found a car in May) and you're not as fussy as I was.

Just be ready to move VERY quickly, my car went online on a Tuesday, I bought Thursday, someone called and offered to pay asking price over the phone minutes after I'd paid the deposit (Bristol OPC).

PSE is well worth it btw, short shift kit also if you're after a manual.

I agree with you on PCM, I'd feel short changed without on +£40k motor. If you buy from a dealer don't forget to get them to update to full post code (I did....was annoyed paying £150 later on).

Good luck,

LN7
Cheers for that, if only just for reassurance that I'm not the only one set on PCM!!

Trust me, I'm ready to pull the trigger immediately, I think I was on the phone to Paragon literally minutes after the ad went live.....

My only regret at the moment is the car that Cameron Cars sold recently, the owner was a PH'er and offered it me for the PX price and as I was still dithering over the GTS at the time I passed it up which I now regret!

That looks a nice one, Liam. Are you going for it?
No, not a massive fan of blue cars. Plus I don't think it has PCM, Chrono etc and is one of the most expensive cars on the market.......

correct no PCM or sports mode or leather or Bose so bloody expensive with those missing.

yes a rarer colour, but imo that's for a good reason, it's blue !!!

white, red or peridot are the colours to have imo and look good with the black detailing the R has , but red seems also a slow seller, even though that's what I started out looking for and think it looks great in red.

White and Peridot are no question the fastest sellers. Peridot being marmite I guess but works well, but then White is marmite these days.

wonder how much a SVP 3.7/3.9 engine rebuild would cost in my R instead of going for a GT4, the steering really is a worry in this GT4after driving the GTS models.
White is my preferred colour but would buy a Peridot or Red car.

The only red car on the market currently was owned by Porsche for the first 18 months of it's life and Googling the reg brought up lots of pics of it being thrashed around the PEC at Silverstone and also in a load of online car review articles as a test car.....not the sort of history I'm looking for which might explains why it's down from £42,995 to £37,995 now........

The other school of thought on a manufacturer owned car is that it will have been meticulously maintained to ensure it is at its full potential for any magazine etc. Could be worth a look at, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you find or of course you may not.
Other people have said the same.

I've been to see this car and whilst it seems to be fully loaded and looks nice, there were/are a large number of stone chips to the bonnet/bumper. There is a fairly significant chip/scratch on the rear quarter panel.

The car was registered March 2011 I think, with the first service not being carried out until August 2014, my understanding is that that service was done 18 months late....

The dealer tried to explain it away saying that the previous owner bought the car from Porsche in Aug 2012 and therefore he serviced in two years later, only weeks before selling it......

The mileage is actually 22k not 21k, not a huge issue but in combination with the above plus it being a PEC car, was enough for me to want to spend the money elsewhere....

In fairness, that would put me off also, a missing service is not great. Stonechips are also not unusual but a bit off-putting. having said that it's the cheaper end of the R marker by the looks of it...horse for courses as they say.

Did you go and see the one at Paragon?
The car is NOW the lower end of the market but when I saw it a month ago it was £40,995 and they didn't seem too interested in doing a deal at the time.

I've not seen the Paragon car. It looks great but no PSE or Porsche Warranty currently plus the fairly high price (think there are only 2 higher priced cars advertised online) is what stopped me going to see it.....I'd go all the way up to £45k for a fully loaded, low mile car with two years Porsche warranty but it seems that that either doesn't exist or I'd have to wait till maybe the summer when people are offloading them potentially, for GT4's, but I'm impatient and can't wait that long!! smile

If you wait that long I suspect you'll be paying more for the example you want also.
Yeah, there is that too.

I'm sure come summer time, people offloading them for GT4's will be wanting £50k for their cars!!

I'm just going to compromise on something, not sure what yet, and buy something next week, I can't wait till next year! smile

Trev,

That red one is the red one I've been talking about in my above posts..........

And that white one has no buckets, no PSE, no particularly low mileage, no Porsche decals and is the most expensive car on the market......... laugh

The missing of a service would be a problem however not knowing the Porsche world that well would it be possible to find out what they actually did to the car while it was with them.
Good chance that what was done would far outweigh the missed standard service. If it can be seen to have good history backed by Porsche themselves then a bit of paintwork rectification could well be a very small price to pay. Obviously only my thoughts but a bit of time spent investigating things could well pay dividends.
If they have already dropped the price of it because they have had it a while it could also be a good time to try a low ball offer on them.
Whilst I agree that it could of course been maintained meticulously by Porsche I just don't want to buy a car with the associated history and have to explain away the gap in service history to potential buyers........it didn't take me (who knows hardly anything about Porsche's) to piece the info and dates together and realise it must have been a PEC car and do what I did and Google the reg to unearth pics of it. It's like a new girlfriend, you know she's not a virgin, but you don't want to know everything about her past either laugh

Fully understand your thought process, i guess i just look at it and think that if you get it at the right price if it has been well looked after then the downside come sale time should be minimal.
Which is the one you are looking at?
The red car would have been more of a consideration if my intention was to keep it for a few years, add a few services and iron out the initial history, but I'm intending to keep this car for maybe a year or so, maybe in to early 2016, so the history means a lot really.
