So it turns out I can't fit in a 986 without reclining the seat fully and subsequently my head being exposed to bashing on the anti roll bars in any sort of impact. Obviously this wouldn't be ideal. If I put the seat more vertical I barely fit.

Question is does anyone know if removing the front centre console would provide me with some relief or a semi acceptable driving position? (so called GT3 console delete)

I'm 6ft4ish and around 15 stone so not freakishly tall or heavy but I just cant fit in my mates car comfortably. It feels like someone's crippling my accelerator foot in his LHD car. I suppose it will be the same for my clutch in a RHD car.

Any ideas to make me fit would be great, I'd love to own one.

I'm 6' 3" and find the headroom OK. Is the seat height adjustable? I have mine all the way down and slightly reclined. Don't actually need it all the way back though, 1 click to spare.

With the top down, I feel the wind on my forehead though. I can only stand about 30 mins before it starts to numb if I'm out on a run.

Throttle is hinged and large, the clutch pedal is smaller and higher. There's a foot rest to the left of the pedal on RHD cars.

I'm 6'4" & fitted into our old 986s no problem. Plenty of headroom, even with a helmet on. Unless the OP is freakishly long in the body I would be surprised about a fit issue.

The problem is that to fit I have to have the seat reclined so much that my head is in direct contact with the roll over bars. I'm gutted I don't fit in one safely.

I sat in a 2012 Boxster today- it had more than enough room. I guess I'd better start saving.

Did you try the seat height adjust lever? The 986 is a bit wierd in terms of you having to shuffle the adjustments round in the right order to get the seat all the way back and down.

I'm 6' and initially found the seating position very cramped compared to my 3 series, but you soon get used to it and I now love it's "snug" feeling.

I had the same problem - I am 6'4" ish. I had to accept that a 986 was out of the question, but before you give up until you can afford a 981, have you tried a 987? Porsche made a number of small but significant changes to the cockpit which meant for me that I could escape the headbanger on the roll-over hoop. We had a 987 for a year or so. It was a bit tight and I had to scrape every millimetre - eg by only wearing thin-soled shoes - but I could generally live with it.

Same height and slightly lighter than you, I found the 986 just too uncomfortable even as a passenger, couldn't have safely driving it.

The 987 is better and the 981 perfectly fine although clearly there is a cost issue.

Have you heard about the GT3 console delete option?

The centre console unit was an option on early 986's but became standard thereafter. Thankfully, you can remove them and there's an OEM carpeted panel to replace it and it gives a lot more leg room..
