imho expect the new flat4 turbo engine!according to one article only the gt3rs and gt4 will remain flat6 n/a going forward.
also me thinks more rs60spyder than 987.2 spyder!

Sure to make the previous incarnation even more sought after than it is already!
If I didn't have a couple of nippers needing back seats then the 987.2 Spyder would be hard to resist.

Seems extremely unlikely to me.

The new fast Boxster was already spotted as a test mule with a GT4 bumper, large brakes and a ducktail-like spoiler. It seemed to be based on the 981 and not the 981.2 , so it stands to reason will also have a 6-cylinder N/A engine. Why put a new engine (with routing for the intercooler and all ancillaries!) in an old car when the facelift is just months away?

http://www.caranddriver.com/news/2016-porsche-boxs...

Other than that there's not much information about the new car. What we do know from Hatz is that it will be developed by the regular Porsche company unlike the GT4 which was developed by the Motorsport company in Weissach. We also know that it will not be called "Boxster GT4" and it will be a spiritual successor to the Spyder, but the word "Spyder" was not mentioned yet.

What was mentioned is the "Club Sport" name - in more than one article - so my best guess is that it will be a 981.1 Boxster Club Sport with the standard roof, Cayman GTS engine, bucket seats, GT4 bodykit, ducktail spoiler, same wheel design as the GT4, larger brakes, LSD and lightweight equipment positioned £4-5000 above the Boxster GTS unlike the GT4 which will be a lot more hardcore and expensive. Maybe they'll make a new rear trunk cover with two humps to make it look a bit more special but I doubt it will get a fully bespoke roof. The manual roof turned out to be too impractical and we should have seen a disguised test mule with the new roof by now. After all the old 987.2 Spyder was spotted on multiple occasions with the humps and rear roof covered up many months before its announcement.

Available as PDK or manual, maybe also unlike the GT4 which might be manual only so it won't step on its bigger brother's toes in terms of acceleration and lap times?

Just my uneducated guess - time will tell.

the boxster test mule did not have gt4 lump and some suggestions was the turbo lump and may be the facelift car and not a spyder/gt4/clubsport etc!
the boxster like the 991 is due for a facelift mid 2015 whereas the cayman 981 is not due until next year!all new engines bar gt3rs and gt4 will be turbo and according to autocar report from porsche the 911 will remain flat6 turbo and boxster/cayman flat4 turbo.whatever happens it is a given that all new 991.2 and 981.2 will be turbo to meet emissions

I don't doubt that the 981.2 cars will have turbo engines them. The blue test mule is in my opinion clearly a "send off special" 981.1 and not a 981.2 mule. A 981.1 will have the old N/A 6-cylinder engine in it.

in reply to EricE . i was told by OPC that a new roof has been engineered for the new Spyder but they didn't have any more info. I suspect that this may then permit some form of rear bodywork similar to 987. Other than that I would not disagree with your comments.

Yes. I still think it is one of the best designed cars I have seen. It's amazing what a difference the humps make.

each to his own, as I really don't like the look and they have no useful function (or do they?)

Their useful function is to look good. Plus they need to be there to support the central brake light!

Mine is not in storage. I am about to drive back from Portugal in early February. I guess I might need to put the roof on for at least the last part of the journey!!

doesn't look like there will be a spyder, Porsche seem to be posturing that we will see a Boxster club sport with a weight drop and a mild bhp bump but nowhere near the gt4s output. boxster cs won't be developed by the Motorsport team.

this probably means the cs will be without the gt4s goodie bag. I reckon the boxster cs will have a standard roof and a mild Aerokit package with a custom colour available. 918 buckets as an option?

Does make the hood a dog's breakfast though. A triumph of open form (if you like it) over closed function?
