Once again PH provides an answer.

We have a 981 Boxster S which we purchased new in May 2013. It has now done 7,500 miles all of which were done in summer weather - until this week. I decided that as the car hadn't been out since the summer I would use it this week. I have spent the last two days convinced that the brakes were sticking on, after I released the pedal. It seems that this is not an uncommon problem caused by a "sticky" pedal bush which is worse when the heaters are on.

I will now be able to talk knowledgeably to my OPC and hope that they cover the cost of repair even though the car is now out of warranty. It appears to be a known fault.
By way of update. Hatfield OPC diagnosed the fault as a sticking pedal bush and have replaced the item with an updated part. As others have said, there was never a recall on the issue but the new part is "updated". The labour charge was 1.5 hours which Porsche GB contributed 50% towards as a goodwill gesture. I paid the other 50% labour plus the new parts. My bill including VAT was £176.14. As the car is out of warranty, albeit low mileage and fully serviced, I am happy with the outcome and the bill.

Sounds a bit poor that a company like Porsche can know about a bush which make your brakes jam on and they won't issue a recall.

My car is just coming up for it's 1st MOT. I'll get it done at my local Porsche centre and raise this issue and see what they say.

Don't be supprised by this from Porsche.
Officially they have never had any major problems with there engines?

I feel sorry for for main dealers because they do no the problems but just can't get the support that they should from Germany.....

I still love my Porsche though!!!!

Went to the PH Sunday service today at Prodrive good turnout live in Worcester so went via the country roads via Stratford to Banbury.

Spirited drive but when overtaking a car and then applying the brakes they locked on and did not release, I was nearly rear shunted by the car I had just overtook and had to downshift to second to get the car to move.

The roof was down heater on it looks like the "common" bush sticking on the brake pedal so I turned the heater down on the drivers side (the only time I have used dual climate control in nearly 3 years!).

I will be contacting Porsche service tomorrow but this needs to be a proper recall.

I don't think anyone has said - but does this afflict both manual and PDK cars?

Good point. Ours is PDK.

Thanks for your posts on this, they have proved very useful as I have had very similar, at times rather worrying issues.

I have a Dec 2012 Boxster S PDK with 16,000 miles on the clock. Had no issues during the summer but over the winter the brake pedal issue has materialised. It is especially evident on longer journeys and whilst cold outside with the heater on inside. As others have mentioned, I too, at times have had to lift the pedal with my left foot to release it as I could see my brake lights on from reflections in the rear mirror. I have also had instances of the car braking itself uncommanded.

Having chased the matter with OPC, I was also informed no recall has ever been issued and expectedly I would have to pay for the repair as I am out of warranty. The car is booked in but the expected outcome is pedal bushes and replacement parts have been pre-ordered. For those interested, I have been quoted circa £196 for parts and labour and there was no mention of a contribution from Porsche GB.

I hope this helps any others with similar issues. Being a safety/braking issue it is also my opinion this needs to be a recall.

FWIW when my car was in for its first MOT (delivered March 2014) I raised this issue. My car already has the new bushes, though I'm pretty sure they haven't been fitted during my ownershop - I bought secondhand in Nov 2014, so either my car was built with the new bushes or had them fitted in 2014.

Just had the new bushes fitted to my June 2013 Cayman S under extended warranty.
Brakes had felt slightly sticky. Then I got error messages for PSM failure and Stop/start disabled. These went when car was restarted after a cool down but soon came back again. Heater was on full blast in the footwell as it was a freezing cold day. No problems since.

I don't suppose anyone has the part number to hand for the new bush?

I am going to call Porsche Hatfield tomorrow and see what they have to say, but due to not having an extended warranty I don't expect to get too much help.

I've only had the dash lights come on once which was the day I bought the car on a very cold day and a 3/4 hour drive home, but after jacking the car up I can feel a slight resistance from the brakes when rotating the wheels.

My wife's bush failed and my OPC were quick to book her in. Seems to be a relatively common issue

They ought to do something - it wasn't a recall issue - but surely it should have been.

Similary, mine's May 2014 and my OPC tell me today there's no recall due for mine. I seem to recall the bushes issue was for earlier cars and have previously assumed mine's in the clear.

Just booked in for my MOT and my OPC will have a look at my heater issue. Stopped working once a few weeks back. Under extended warranty.
