Anyone here who has a BGTS notice that the PSE gets MUCH louder from about 1,900 miles onwards?

I had not driven the car for a week due to a business trip but when I took it for a run it was very clear to me the PSE was very much louder in 'Sport' mode (which is always on when I drive).

Not complaining, I am a very happy camper indeed smile

Not strange for me, but bear in mind now temperatures are rising, hotter means louder

I noticed the same on my CGTS around ~1.5k though. Agree regarding the warmer weather / temps, once the motor has been at full tilt after warming up its sound is magnificent. I have pdk and the manual downshifting in sports plus is truly epic, constantly turning heads at the lights.

I've noticed when the engine is warmed up and after a short break, so let's say trip of 50 miles, then break then back on the road, the exhaust crackles heavily! Really loud! (CGTS with PDK here with 600 miles).

The thing that drives me insane is the "shotgun" sound inside the cabin during gearchanges at 5000rpm

Hindhead Tunnel for mine smile

Love making a ruckus underneath motorway interchanges too.

Get my Boxster GTS on Friday - can't wait!!!!!!!!!!.... Southwick tunnel on the A27 between Shoreham and Brighton should also be a good echo chamber - and unlike the Hindhead tunnel there is no SPECS speed checks in it either!!

I too don't quite understand why a combustion malfunction (burning of fuel in the manifold/exhaust), which modern engines don't normally exhibit these days, should be artificially created and become a desirable feature.

A throwback to the 1960'e era of "proper" sports cars I guess.... make the most of it, with ever tightening emission regulations soon all cars will be turbocharged and wonderful sounding exhausts such as the Boxster / Cayman GTS will be but a distant memory on new cars.

Not at all. My Boxster is turbo charged and makes a great noise.

I think we may have a difference of opinion of what constitutes "proper" - most sports cars of that era were by modern standards utter rubbish - I've driven a lot of them,, and wouldn't give tuppence for the vast majority.

I was talking in context with the sound rather than the driving

I've never heard the sound of a Boxster or Cayman turbo, but very few production turbocharged cars make a nice sound. Too muffled by the turbocharger and charge coolers.

The driving experience isn't what's being talked about, but the noise. In the past sports and racing cars popped and banged because of their tuning. Even though they don't have to do that any more, it's engineered in because that noise is associated with sportiness. It's marketing and personally I love it.

We'll just have to differ - as my wife will tell you, I haven't got a nostalgic bone in my body. I just associate the noise with poor engineering (difficult to avoid then with carburettors and high overlap cams
but unnecessary now). I try to avoid farting in public too.

Before you know it Porsche will be piping the noise of a six cylinder engine through their sound system when they go to turbo 4s - it's a slippery slope.....

Little point in you buying a Boxster or Cayman GTS then - you wouldn't appreciate it as it would be far too uncouth for you. As for me I think it's one of the finest sounding modern cars out there. Sports cars aren't supposed to sound like muffled vacuum cleaners.
