Thanks - v nice My contribution to the Carrara White Metallic vs Flat White discussion.
I had an opportunity to capture a pic of the two colours side-by-side earlier today. iPhone only and a dull day - so not the very best quality. . They are slightly underexposed as a result of the limited metering capabilities of the iPhone. I could have adjusted this but so many of the shots on this thread are post-processed to death that I thought I'd just leave them unadulterated.
A few posters have commented that CWM is "cleaner", "whiter" or "slightly bluish" when compared with a flat white car. It is, and I think these photos show this quite clearly.

Prefer the Cayman GT4 I take it is the base white ? A bit like the DAZ challenge
I went for the standard white over Carrara White. Looks crisper to me. Couldn't really distinguish between the two on used cars at my OPC (and neither could the salesman which must mean something!!).My understanding:
Carrara White (B9A) is different to White (C9A) which is different to Carrara White Metallic (OK1)
The two colours available for the GT4 are Carrara White Metallic (OK1) and White (C9A)
Why is this important? Because the "new" Carrara White Metallic is quite different to the old Carrara White.
Take care with your Porsche whites...!

Yep. Totally correct. Carrara White (B9A) is different to White (C9A) which is different to Carrara White Metallic (OK1)

Took me a while to figure that out. Not all OPCs are clued up (my one was)
The 7.2 RS White was a Carrara white (non metallic)
This solid white is less creamier.
On a dull day I found CWM to be a bit too blue. But didn't see it in sunshine. Might be excellent.
Though many have told me it just looks white.
Personally I felt solid white is the Motorsport colour.

Bladdy hell, talk about confusing lol. I was all for metallic, but side by side, it looks a little too blue for my taste; amazing how perception changes when side by side.Carrara White (B9A) is different to White (C9A) which is different to Carrara White Metallic (OK1)

Did the Cayman R have two white colour options because I distinctly remember when picking mine up that they had another, which appeared significantly more cream than mine?!?!
According to the detailer who treated my new car with one of the ceramic quartz sealant products on Wednesday, the metallic white is built up with additional clear coat layers compared to the flat whites. This does make it more hard wearing and resistant to sunlight. He also expressed a view that metallic whites hide stone chips and minor nicks better than the flat whites.
When conditions are overcast, I don't think there's a lot between the two available whites. For every person who distinguishes the two by saying that the flat white looks creamy / slightly off-white, there's another who references instead a slight blueish hint in the Carrara White Metallic. I suspect that these are two side of the same coin.
Viewed in sunlight on a bright day however I think that the metallic aspect of CWM really lifts the car in the way that metallic paints do. Somehow they accentuate lines and the shaping of surfaces. This is why they are popular even though they are surprisingly expensive optional extras when viewed rationally.
I agree that flat white is "more motorsport".
I agree that additional reflectivity of metallic white really lifts CWM cars on sunny summer days.
The durability angle probably has something to it given the layering inherent to metallic finishes.
There is no right or wrong with colours. They really are a matter of personal taste! And with whites, you HAVE to find a way to see them in real life as they are notoriously hard to capture and display accurately as images. I wouldn't be swayed by pictures on websites, especially pictures taken on different days at different locations. I asked my OPC to let me know when they had CWM car and a flat white car in. The type of car didn't matter. Within a couple of weeks they had a Macan and a Cayenne that they were able to put next to each other in the car park. At that point the choice was easy.

Colours work on some models but not others for instance I think CWM looks awfull on a macan !
! Originally I went jet black and have since seen in the flesh and it's lovely!then I moved to guards red but imo looks better on a 997.2!I saw the flat white gt4 and yellow gt4 at the PEC and didn't like!
So what I did to help me choose a colour was I went to an OPC with lots of 981 to view in different colours to see what worked and what didn't standing close up and from a distance !After seeing a CWM 981 Boxster in the showroom that's what I took a chance on and 2 weeks ago saw a CWM gt4 in the flesh and I am so glad of my choice!
I also think wheel colour can make a difference but platinum silver works with all colours although silver wheels look good with dark colours but I am not a fan of the Matt black wheels don't do the wheels justice imo!
But at the end of the day it's all personal choice which makes no right or wrong colour!
I can't wait to see the birch green cars as I suspect they will be the pick of pts!
