Gen 1 Cayman / Boxster engine re-build for sale
Discussion
I am aware of the reported issues of bore score on gen 1 Cayman and Boxsters.
My question is this. If a car is advertised for sale with a full re-build, is that a good thing in itself or could it lead to further problems? It is this advert that got me thinking. It sounds great on paper, but why would someone spend £13,000 on a car in 12 months and then sell for not much more? They may of course be moving to a 911 as stated, but could the vehicle be a minefield and what would your thoughts be?

This doesn't appear strange to me as I am looking to do the exact same thing with my Hartech rebuilt Cayman s.
I have just ordered a new Cayman so my gen 1 will have to go as a result. I have been offered a poor trade in value and am prepared to take a large knock in value when I offer it for sale. Without any kind of rebuild regardless of the cost to rebuild, a car would be rendered almost worthless so you have a no option but to have the work carried out. It would be nice to think that I would return more money as a result of the rebuild and improvements but I highly doubt it.

Are you suggesting he should just keep it forever? The value is the market value. My question is this. In terms of the rebuild, it depends what was done. There is a world of difference in doing the minimum to get one running and a proper Hartech future proofing. However, if it was 10k, you would imagine the rebuild included upgrades. You need to check.

Any details of your car or has it been sold already fella?I have just ordered a new Cayman so my gen 1 will have to go as a result. I just bought a Hartech rebuilt Cayman S, was local and roughly middle of the market price wise. Seemed like a no brainer. From recollection the chap buying it just needed more seats, and was getting it in the ear from the other half about how much he'd been spending on it! You never get much back from what you spend on repairs/maintenance otherwise you'll price yourself out of the market.
