Ordered a Boxster GTS yesterday for the wife...well they are girls cars aren't they!!getmecoat

Only joking, we are seriously looking forward to picking it up. I have been quoted September delivery.

Can I ask if that's a realistic timeframe? Could we expect it sooner?

Thanks in advance.

Congratulations! Delivery sounds about right, demand is high for the GTS models - you wouldn't likely get a Cayman GTS built to your spec until 2016! What specification have you gone for?

What made you chose a GTS vs a new Spyder? - PDK a prereq?

Went for GTS rather than Spyder as our thoughts were Spyder is a bit too "hard core".

Spec wise there was a lot of help from the comments on here especially regarding the PCM vs CDR plus. We opted for CDR which gives us DAB and better sound...we'll use the iPhone for navigation if needed!

Spec is here: http://www.porsche.com/microsite/porsche-code/defa...

Not the biggest specified GTS coming in at just over £57K on the planet but suits us.

I don't think you do get DAB with the CDR radio...if you want DAB you have to opt for PCM.

Mine arrived six weeks after I deposited, but I got lucky with a build slot so September sounds very realistic.

I would reconsider PCM; the car is a tourer and the sat Nav function is so beautifully integrated into both the centre console screen and the right-side dashboard LCD screen, plus you can easily set the Nav to avoid motorways and stay on A-roads. I think I have used Nav almost every touring drive, purely just to keep my bearings and look for twisty roads.

Fiddling around with a smartphone Nav app is totally at odds with an integrated unit, and trust me when I say you won't get map coverage everywhere on a phone.

My spec came to £69.5k but I admit to going a little tick-happy with the options list smile

While I agree with all of that, the fact that it doesn't do speed cameras or personalised POIs is a bit (a lot for some) of a negative. I use my smartphone to get camera alerts via bluetooth - but that does mean I can't use the radio (other than for traffic alerts) or any other audio. Since I rarely have radio or music when I drive it's no big deal for me - but would be for many.

Blimey you did go tick-happy, that one hell of an option list you must have there! cool

For another £1K PCM might be worth it. I have a little while until lock down and I'll give it some thought.

The OP stated his spec was CD-R (which does not come with DAB). As you correctly state you have to add £1,052 for CD-R+ in order to get DAB. So we are both correct!

Something you might want to consider, when time comes to sell your car PCM is an "expected" extra and I've been told in the past that dealers will knock off about £1k for cars that don't have it. You could argue therefore that if you are paying £1k extra for CD-R+ it isn't going to cost you much at all over the life of the car in your hands to choose it. The navigation system is a very good system, better than you'd get on a smartphone by some way.

Box now ticked for PCM...thanks for the advice.

Silly not ticking it in the first place really!

Why do you need traffic camera alerts? I don't generally speed on public roads so I don't see the need. The few times I venture into the 60-80 mph zone on A roads is usually when I can see a clear mile behind and in front of me and even then I don't see the point in exceeding 70 IMHO.

On motorways I do 79mph which is the limit + 10% + 2mph at which the Old Bill generally give you a verbal warning anyway since it's inside the variant limits.

Through villages it's 100%, no questions 30mph or what the marked limits are. I live in a village and respect drivers who respect residents.

You've got a good spec there, all the right bits covered for a "pure" GTS experience. Unlike myself you've been much more disciplined with ticking boxes. You were definitely right staying with the GTS interior of alcantara and leather rather than opting for the no-cost full leather which completely spoils the GTS exclusive interior. Congratulations!

Perhaps I do. You clearly don't regard 70mph as the highest safe speed (in good conditions) any more than I do.

PCM - or any other OEM sat nav doesn't have traffic camera warnings for the simple reason in many countries such warnings are illegal. Re observing speed limits I agree totally with sticking to 20 or 30 mph in built up areas, and do so strictly. On motorways roof down 80mph is fast enough, with mine I put PDK in normal and drive in a relaxed manner. Once off the motorway spirt button pressed and enjoy driving once more. There aren't many A roads where you can drive far in excess of the 60 mph limit safely for very long anyway, quick blasts where it's safe and back down again. The enjoyment is in open sweeping corners etc not driving at highly illegal speeds on the straights. Don't need speed camera warnings I've got SWMBO!

That's the guff that Porsche told me - but it's not the case.

My wife's Nissan Note has them - and I'd be pretty sure that any car (mainly Renault) with a TomTom system will have them too. See Pocket GPS World for details of lots more including BMW/Some jags and LandRover, some Mercs, Rolls etc.

I'm pretty sure that the only country in Europe that doesn't allow them full stop is Switzerland. France has a sort-of ban which both TomTom and Garmin sat navs circumvent quite legally. Any sat nav that supports personalised POIs can in practise support some sort of warning.

It is illegal in France, Belgium, and far as I am aware Germany as well. Neither do Mercedes Benz, Audi, Ford, Skoda, VW, or BMW show traffic enforcement cameras either for the same reason, so it's a fact not "guff". I have a Tom Tom which I use.when out and about in my wife's car and it is hugely inferior to the PCM system - but then so it should be as it's a fraction of the cost. Same goes for the navigation with Apple.
